"I still love this series of books, yet I still at times find the stories very intense . . . perhaps too intense. This story was not any different. Although I normally would give up on reading a novel that I considered to be too intense there are enough positive aspects of it to keep me reading. However, there is no way I would want to read the next one in the series straight after this. A break is needed after reading them. I was always looking forward to Gregori's story because I found him to be the most arrogant and least flexible of the Carpathian's and I knew he would have a very independent lifemate for him to learn the lessons he needed to learn. And Savannah was definitely very strong and independent. It was good to see Gregori mellow as his relationship with Savannah progressed."
"The Dark One, Gregori knew his time was running short and he needed a lifemate. He believed he had the power to force the daughter of the Prince to become his lifemate but when she asked for a few years of freedom, he could do nothing else but let her go. Savannah Dubrinski may have been the daughter of a powerful ancient, she knows the basics about being Carpathian, but she never really understood the life of the male Carpathian until Gregori, the most scary of all males, claimed he could wait no longer before claiming her as his lifemate. Spending time with the humans in America had given Savannah a new way of life that she enjoyed the problem was if she could find a way to get her way mix with his way to make them both happy.
Book 4 ..... Back to the basics, this is almost as good as 'Dark Prince'. I love the ancients, they are strong, set in their ways, and knowledgeable. Watching them go from cold and dark to the warm light, is always interesting. Gregori specifically, he had given Mikhail and Aidan such a rough time about controlling their lifemates, I found myself laughing at him in all his frustrations. I normally like to see other Carpathians in the story, but this one doesn't have anyone else, they talked about Julian (set up for the next book I think) but I was ok with it just being Gregori and Savannah and their human friends like Gary. I hope that just because Gregori has his lifemate, doesn't mean we wont see him again, he is and has been one of my favorites, his stern ways, his certainty of right and wrong."
"I liked this one better than the previous, Dark Gold, installment. Predominantly because there was a lot more humor in this book than the previous installments and because the heroine's whining was a bit more truncated. I liked seeing Gregori get his comeupance in regards to his previous attitude about being indulgent with women.
Although they are decent books, so far I am finding them rather formulaic and most of the "alpha" males are essentially just twits. Because the first one I read, Dark Slayer, was a later book and was different I am continuing to hang in there in the hopes that the formula will change a bit because I do find the world and its lore fairly well done and some of the characters are engaging.
Christine Feehan has caused me to decide to add "molten" and "creamy" to my list of "words and phrases romance writers should never use." It will come in somewhere below Keri Arthur's "every fiber of his/her being" which, fortunately, is not seen much in this series (so far). Although I suppose creamy could be used as a descriptor for skin, but frankly as a description for body fluids it puts me off a good deal."
"4th in the series--I was really looking forward to this one since it was about Savannah--Mikhail's and Raven's daughter and Gregori, who has popped up in many of the stories. I was a little disappointed, though--the plot was just like the last one I read. It was entertaining enough, though and just enough hint about Julian that I can't wait to read the next one."
