About this title: The bestselling author of "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" pens a hilarious look at life in the South during the '50s. It begins when Daisy Fay is a feisty, lonely 11-year-old, and ends six years later when she's the unlikely winner of the Miss Mississippi contest.

"I found the first half of this book to be delightful and funny! I'd give it a 4. Once Daisy Fay enters high school there were parts I didn't like so much. I didn't like the ending at all.
Warning: one character uses the F-bomb 3 times at the end
I would love to hear Tonja read parts of the beginning aloud!"
"I loved this book. It was funny, quirky, and very entertaining. Fannie Flagg was able to deal with serious issues as seen through the eyes of naive and lighthearted Daisy Fay Harper, who in this book grows up from age 12-17. It was refreshing and left me with a sense of wanting more. The ending really warmed my heart. I wonder if there is a sequel...does anyone know?"
"The first time I read this book, I was cracking up! And I cracked up the second time, too. What I forgot was that so many of the funny parts have sad, bittersweet sitations behind the scenes. However, this remains one of the funniest books I have read. Those who do not appreciate the humor just may not be from the south."
"I picked this book because I needed something light to read. It was very much an easy read. But it also was a really great read. Reminded me of The Ya Ya Sisterhood. The main character is an 11 year old girl in the 50's. It is a good coming of age story. She is a strong role model in the face of her poor upbringing."
