About this title: Victorian gentlewoman Amelia Peabody is not an idle character who sits at home and does nothing, especially when there are ancient archaeological sites to be discovered, so when a cry goes out for help, Amelia is only too happy to drop everything in England and travel to Egypt to be of assistance.

"Amusing, enjoyed the early marriage banter and competiveness. The who did it was too easy to guess even for Amelia and Emerson, this was more of how and why."
"I listened to this on my iPod and it just seemed to take me a long time to get through it. I do have to brag that I guessed the murderer from the very beginning. i don't usually do that with a talented writer."
"I adore mysteries and I love Egypt and the pyramids and etc so this was a great mis for me. Amelie is a bit dry, but a good and proper Englishwoman and class and it is amusing to see her talk to properly and be all British but still run around doing "men's work" of the age. I must admit the chosen marriage partner at the end of Miss Mary was a complete surprise. I thought it was one of the other guys. Good read! Reminded me of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns which are two favorite movies of mine!"
"Elizabeth Peters is a far better writer in her Amelia Peabody series than in her other novels I have read. Perhaps taking on the first-person persona of Amelia helps her write better. I suspect that Amelia has a lot of Elizabeth Peters in her, which is fine - Amelia is rather fun, although plagued with the curse of historical fictional heroines everywhere, which is that she is saddled with a too-modern sense of feminism to be quite believable in the context. She is perhaps not as bad as others I have encountered, though, and at least you can say there was some sort of women's movement on at the time of these novels. But I don't want to be overly critical as these novels are obviously meant to just be fun, and they are. I'll look forward to the next in the series sometime."
