8vo. stiff paper wrappers. x, 191 pages. Reprint of third revised edition. This book is designed to help for the conservation technician, private or institutional, in caring for works of art on paper. Those whose responsibilities include caring for paper objects, but lack the advantage of years of training under a conservator or education in a conservation program will find this work a good place to begin learning about basic conservation. General problems and procedures are discussed, but techniques for advanced restoration should be reserved for trained, qualified conservators working in well-equipped laboratories. Part I serves as a guideline consolidating published information on factors that can be injurious to paper and suggested safeguards. Part II outlines procedures for treatment: initial care, matting, framing, storage, etc. based on techniques generally advocated by paper conservators or modified by the author's personal experiences or preferences. Part III contains appendices and suppliers for "Requirements for the Care of Paper." Some covering soiling. Ownership inscription in pencil.
