This book is heavy enough to inspire me day after day, with only a half page or several pages.
Neal's God is playful but gentle. He is fresh, but reverent. She is startling, but reassuring. It is liberating, but unyielding. They are modern, but timeless. I Am plain, but obscure.
Neal's God is not like a politician who answers the question you didn't ask, but instead like a grandparent who tells you you the scary answer, then backs it up with the comforting answer, showing you in the process that answers are not all that they seem, and maybe you knew inside all along.
Since there is really only one Message, perhaps a reasonable question might be, how true is Neal in writing for God? My honest answer is this: Neal is true enough to the voice of God within him to be saying things you likely will want to read when the time is right. But when you do, listen to the voice of God within yourself, and let Neal be nothing more than your fellow messenger. Believe it all and believe it none."
"Now, there's a little background to me reading this book. I have a beautiful person in my life who happens to be my son-in-law. He is a caring person who has a wisdom beyond this life. He introduced me to some of the more "spiritual" connection books during a time in my life when people were going through a betraying cycle. I have to admit that the books he showered me with helped quite a lot. You can never control what others say or do, but you can control the way it effects you.
My concept of God is not a personification. I believe that personifying God is putting God in their own image. To say that we are a manifestation of him is just arrogance as well. So part of me says that the author of this book is still living a bit in the grasp of christian arrogance. There was a time or two when I wondered if he was a bit schizophrenic. But, that's being blindsighted. I don't think it is meant to be taken as literally as that. The point of that book in my hand was to find solace in the imperfections of human nature and psychology, self reflection, and understanding.
It did this for me. The book was empowering in its philosophy and true in the sense of finding more meaning besides trying to fix things that don't matter. I'd say that this book went a long way toward measuring a list of stuff that had gone wrong in my life. It created pathways to let go and a deep understanding toward others.
I loved it. It is a must read if you are to survive the rest of this life with members of such a weak and maladjusted race of beings. LOL. Humans can be ridiculous. I really think it gets you through."
"I'm unsure how many times I've really read this book(s). I first read them from cover to cover. Then, because of the format which allows for the opening of its pages at any point, I read a few short pages now and then, and coming away with some new bit of insight. I have also heard Mr. Walsch speak in person so when I read his works, I hear it in his voice. He is a wonderful speaker. I believe you have to be open minded to enjoy this."
An amazing book! It was recommended by a friend, and so I thought I would read it to see if it would give me any new insights into the age-old questions about the purpose of life etc. I didn't really know what to expect, but it blew me away! It's a conversation between an ordinary man called Neale Donald Walsch (with a lot of problems in his life) and God (you may not accept that it's 'God' talking, but then that's up to you) and it's written in a very easy to read style. From the first page it had me riveted and I couldn't put it down. You learn about the importance of trusting your feelings, expressing appreciation, how all human feelings are rooted in either fear or love and that we have been taught to live in fear. As it says in the book 'precious little is said about the glory of the most loving', but an awful lot is said in our society about being 'better', 'stronger' and 'cleverer' than others. Fear motivates us to be this, because we don't want to be considered failures. All the big questions are answered: why are we here? Why is there evil in the world? Is there sin? Is there a hell? If so, what is it? Why do things happen as they do? What happens when you die? How can I have successful relationships? Is having a lot of money a bad thing? And inbetween times there's also humour, because we're told that God has a great sense of humour!
So many of my questions were answered in a totally new way (going to church or reading the Bible had never given me answers like these) and not only did they make sense to me, they were also liberating! If you're remotely curious about any of the above questions, then I would encourage you to read this book and decide for yourself whether the answers are for you or not."
