"White City" in B&W
Able to stand by itself, this volume gains stature when read in conjunction with Erik Larson's "The Devil in the White City". Both, not surprisingly, deal with the Chicago Exhibition of 1893, called 'The Columbian Exhibition" as it celebrated Columbus's' 'discovery' of "America'.
Reproduced from the original, there are some flaws in the printing, but the Black and White format does to distract as all the buildings were covered in an off white coating. Frederick Law Olmstead's massive landscaping efforts lose their color, but that can't be helped. Altogether, an extraordinary look at the dawn of the American century.
