"This book (written in 1965) by Colonel Podhajsky, reveals the training methods of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, the home of the Lipizzaner Stallions. Today, of course, these methods are pretty much common knowledge to anyone interested in dressage, but I don't think it was always like that. I think dressage training is an art that was almost lost and Colonel Podhajsky is one of the proponents that helped keep it alive. In fact Podhajsky is the man who helped rescue the Lipizzaner stallions and mares at the end of WWII, with the help of General Patton (however that incident is not in this book).
The book describes dressage terms (collection, paces, seat, et al) and training methods in a simple way that anyone can understand."
