Very Good in Very Good jacket. A beautiful book being a facsimile reprint of the 1917 new edition-this book houses both of the original volumes in just one volume. The text supported by numerous charming colour plates by Archibald Thorburn. The publisher's green boards gilt embossed to the spine. A lovely, clean, tight very good copy in a very good wrapper. Both the head and tail of the spine a little bumped with light associated creasing to the wrapper. Several tiny bumps to each of the upper board edges. Several to the lower board edges too-none heavy. The wrapper has been price-clipped. There is a short tear of around 2cm to the lower front panel corner, which has been repaired with acid-free archival tape to verso. No inscriptions. The text block remains very fresh, clean and tight. A very good plus copy in a very good wrapper.
This large and heavy tome will delight any birder or others who love bird art. Thornburn was a brilliant observer and painter of birds and it shows in each plate. There are many British species, naturally, since Thorburn was a Brit. But some of the species are also common in North America.
