About this title: Yossarian and many of the other characters from CATCH-22 are back in this sequel to the earlier novel. As blackly humorous as its predecessor, CLOSING TIME is about a vast government conspiracy that is directly connected to hell, which is populated by dead writers. When Yossarian--now 68--inadvertently finds out about this phenomenon, Heller's ...

"Although not quite as good as Catch-22, I really enjoyed this sequel. The two books have a very different feel and are only tangentially related through some of the characters. Closing Time is more engaging in that it deals with a variety of topics in addition to the Capitalism and war themes that Catch-22 focuses on. If you liked Catch-22, I would recommend it."
I don't think I've ever read a book which has deteriorated so badly after the first 100 pages. That section of the book is fantastic and shows a lot of promise, though from then on it just dies a slow death. I had a lot of hope for Yossarian's waster son, but he just turned out... ugh. Boring.
Read this only if you badly need to sleep some night. And only if you want a ready example of how sequels can potentially be completely rubbish."
"Heller's sequel to Catch-22. It's not exactly embarrassing -- Heller can still form complete sentences and churn out a plot, for example -- but is more on the order of an act of desecration, like painting color all over Michaelangelo's David. Not a "must-not-read," because you may simply be curious, but set your expectations as low as you think you can compared to Catch-22 and then prepare to still be a little disappointed."
"Sequel to Catch-22, pretty good book, although nowhere close to the Catch-22. It is pretty dark, especially towards the end. I still liked it a lot for its humor."
