"The Percy Jackson series actually contains 5 books, all of which I've read. Many people compare these books to Harry Potter. There are indeed similarities. Although Percy is being raised by his mother, he has never known his father. He discovers that he has special powers that he inherited from the "missing" parent. Once he makes that discovery he is plunged into a world of magic--except here the magic isn't the magic of wizards, it's the magic (or mythos) of ancient Greece.
The Percy Jackson books lack the depth of the Harry Potter books. The world that Rick Riordan borrows from Greek mythology is never enhanced or turned into a cohesive universe. Instead Riordan merely juxtaposes ancient mythology with modern society.
That said, these books are a fun, easy read. The Percy Jackson books are a fast-paced adventure sure to entertain a 10-year old (or a reader of any age who is young at heart)."
As an avid reader, I can say that although many books are very good,few are the type that I say would be my favorite if Dragon slippers wasn't already my favorite! This series contains adventure, Greek myths, and talking Pegasuses! Unlike many other series, every book is just as good as the last and the title of each chapter is hilarious!"
