Description: BRAND NEW PAPERBACK. 528 pages. Sunday times bestselling author of snobs and oscar winning writer of the screenplay for gosford park returns with a thrilling new novel (Paperback) read more
"About the aristocracy and the wannabees of 1968 England, written by one who lived through it. In novel form but rings of true happenings. The author wrote Gosford Park, the Young Victoria and other highly respected screen plays. A bit too much of the author's philosophy trips up the plot."
"Julian Fellowes, a successful movie script writer, created an engrossing plot focused on one man who undertakes to find the adult offspring of an immensely rich friend who is dying. He detests this dying friend so the challenge is intriguing. The searcher, a Londoner, seeks out their affluent and aristocratic friends from "the season" in the 1970's to accomplish this purpose, and of course he revisits old situations and misunderstandings that are revealed in a different light. Societal changes these characters helped bring into being and the idiosyncrasies of human nature made this a fascinating read for me."
"Having loved Julian Fellowes previous novel Snobs, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one for more witty, observant social humor. I really enjoyed this book and had many laugh out loud moments although I found it a bit dense at certain points and did not think it flowed as easily as his previous work. Definitely an enjoyable read."
"About halfway through the book, I found myself becoming irritated with how much of a snob the narrator was. I kept telling myself he was supposed to be, until I got to the end and read Fellowes' little epilogue and wondered how transparent his narrator actually was. Also never made you understand why the golden girl he loved so much was so lovable, other than the fact that she was rich. So yeah, a fun little beach-like read, no harm done."
