My mind is wondering to what happens after JM's book. I hope its Qhuinn, and I hope his mate isn't Payne. This isn't a review and there's nothing that I've read so far that implies this, just random thoughts I'm having while reading... you know, trying to see who's left and do the math. I'm feeling like I want more Qhuinn and Blay in this book. And for the book before his, JM is more absent that usual.
Finished. I liked it. There's a change happening. It makes me wonder how many books JR Ward has planned for this series. I mean, I could see everything ending in the next book or I could see it going on for a while. I like Rhevenge, he's a good guy. I'm a fan of characters that think they have to fight their nature to be good. And since he is always fighting his sympath side, he proves that goodness has very little to do with genetics and everything to do with the strength of your character. And I like Ehlena, she's a good heroine. It would seem that so many people have been ousted from the glymera it's amazing they still exist.
....With the whole kidnapped by Lash thing with Xhex, and the way JM ended the book after his whole threesomes in bathrooms and Jack Daniels benders, it is feeling a little like the way Lover Eternal ended and as much as I loved Lover Awakened, I don't want to read it again, with different characters, true?
I'm still waiting for that favor the Scribe Virgin mentioned to Wrath in the first book. I like everything that's happening with Wrath, although I really wanted for him to be able to continue to fight. But I think the fact that he is truly ruling and embracing being king is great. But bonus, PHURY is back in! YEAH! Although I'm surprised he's still called the primale, seeing as he's not fathering any obscene amount of children. Oh and just as a small thing, the fact that Rehv is in that cabin with him and you still don't see him that much, I guess I still miss Phury. I hope Ward continues to revisit old characters POV and that we get back to Phury. I feel like there's more to him that I just haven't learned and I still feel cheated!
Getting back to it, I feel like to get Xhex back, it seems like they will have to kill Lash, and I feel like if you kill Lash, the lesser war ends at this point, so how many more books? Also, I find the parts about the Lessers, less interesting to read. I realize it was my favorite thing about Lover Unbound, we didn't have any lesser POV. I find that when I need to put the book down, it's easier to do when I see it's about the Lessers. Even though I think Lash is a good character, he's such a douche-bag that he's hard to take.
I really want a book about Qhuinn & Blay. I feel horrible for Blay. I know what Ward has said about theses two. I'm glad they will be more present in JM's book. Although based on what she's said, I'm dreading it a little. And I just can't wait to see if she really follows through with them and the HEA. I hope it makes it to a whole book of it's own. I really like Qhuinn.
And I wonder what's going to happen with Payne... I've heard her book is next after JM's and that Dr. Manny plays is the hero to her heroine. Which make me curious about Doc Manny. Oh all the questions! I can't wait!"
"This book is not for puritans or those opposed to graphics in writing. If you are looking for Jane Austin these are so not the books for you to read. I anxiously awaited the release of Rehvenge's story. He is one of my favorites in the series. If I could find a man like this-yeah utter happiness for me.
Yes the dialog is explicit. The sex is graphic. The story is not just about vampires it is about love, "human"interaction, tolerance and there are some strong women involved. The characters are strong yet each one is vulnerable but strive to make good choice just as we all should. Since I am no model of virtue and I live in the real world- I Love these Novels and each member and mate of the BDB have a place in my literature heart."
"I've read seven of these now (and am somewhat ashamed to admit it) so you'd think I'd be used to the stilted dialogue by now. Apparently, I'm not and JR Ward has some real howlers in this one. My personal favorites include :
1) 'so destiny does have an area code' (it's 518 if you're interested) 2) one character's penis is described 'as long as a thighbone' 3) "Allies were the third prong in the wheel of war" Sentences like this just make me giggle.
And there's so many more sentences just like this to be found.
Like the last book, I couldn't get into the story and found myself unable to support Rehvenge and Ehlena's love. He's a drug dealer/pimp, she's a nurse caring for her mentally ill father. She objects to his line of work, he burns down his club. Meanwhile, Ehlena has conveniently and suddenly inherited millions so I guess she and Rehv won't have to worry about living expenses now that he's destroyed his livelihood.
In other developments, Wrath loses his sight and gets over that loss in pretty much the same chapter. I like that he doesn't dwell on minor setbacks.
I keep reading these books since I'm intrigued by John Mathew's subplot and am interested to see how it might turn out. But nothing much happens for him except he has a lot of sex (occasionally in public restrooms). And he finally gets to have sex with Xhex (subtle name choice there)."
"Man, what an intense, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat read! Overall, defiantly a good book! And, once again, Ward has managed to keep a smorgasbord of minor-plots within a book all completely relevant.
While there were not as many minor plots within this book as there were in Ward's other Black Dagger Brotherhood, there were a few. Continuing with John's story, along with Xhex, this specific minor plot was intense. A lot of chemistry and high powered emotions ran through the two of them throughout the book, and while John's intimacy issues are somewhat resolved, the emotional issues between John and Xhex are so nearly dealt with. In fact, beings that the book ends with a major cliffhanger of Xhex being taken prisoner by Lash in the final chapters, the love story between the two has more to give...on a side note, though, I must admit I was totally, completely shocked when John discovered Xhex sympath nature, which doesn't bother him at all.
The other subplot deals, of course, with Lash. Beings that he was a vampire-turned-Omega's-child, this story line actually tied in seamlessly with the sympath ordeal between Rehvenge and his "princess." Culminating in a final showdown at the sympath colony, where the Brothers and Ehlena stage a rescue mission for Rehvenge's capture, it actually turns out that Lash falls- in a twisted sick kinda way- in love with Rehv's blackmailer. Like the previous plot, this one too goes unfinished. While the princess sympath does indeed die, the story of evil, baddie Lash and his grotesque existence still continues, and will do so into the next book no doubt.
The primary story, that of Ehlena and Rehvenge, was explosive. Meeting up at the hospital where Ehlena works, the two are polar opposites who can't stay away from each other. Testing out each other by a round of phone-play first, the story escalates into a passionate story, and one that really makes things interesting.
Overall, awesome. Simply, awesome...but, if I were to credit the book- or series for that matter- with any negativity, it would by my criticism that Ward utilizes the G-D word WAY too much. Using it once is bad enough, but it's pretty heavily prevalent through the series.
Although, while I do indeed hate this fact...it's still a great book, and series!"
