"I don't know how this series keeps getting better, but it does. Like the earlier Laurell K. Hamilton "Anita Blake" books, Cat continues to develop as the world around her and her personal situation evolve. Though her relationship seems stable and secure, we learn that in their world there is still a very real way for it to be threatened, and that they truly could lose each other. Her unique physiology continues to confound. I was at about the half-way point at bedtime last night, and while I usually read to the end of the current chapter and call it a night, I simply couldn't put it down. I had to know what was going on. I finally had to bail with about 50 pages to go, and devoured those first thing this morning. Then I learned there's a spin-off series. Yippee!"
"I have to say that this book was gut wrenching to say the least. I found it to be disturbing. I read this book starting in the afternoon and finished by 11 pm. Too bad for me that it ruined my supper. I was so depressed by the events in this book that I actually stomped around like a two year old. I really had a hard time with the break up of Cat and Bones. I cried when he walked out the door on her. Then when Cat was meeting Bones 'downstairs' I was nervous and scared for her. I have to say that this was an emotional rollar coaster of a book for me. I never felt the love between them getting back to where it was, even at the end with the death of (I can't even mention his miserable name). I said as I finsihed the book. I hope she (J.F.) pulls it back together in the next book because the chemistery between Cat and Bones was too good and I would miss it terribly. I do have faith though. All in all, it was a good book if you like watching a terrible break up of a strong relationship and then a half and half reconciliation."
"The entire series is just grave-tastic. I have always enjoyed a good other worldly story, however my daughter became hooked on this genre after reading the Twilight Series. It is not for teens or tweens but it is definitely a good read for adults. Action, Drama, Romance, and a lot of gore. Loved it and can't wait for the new Series."
"Jeaniene Frost has a certain way of maintaining such suspense and romance in a book that always make me come back for more. Just like the rest of the series, I love this book. The blurb didn't seem to do any justice to the story, because so many twists happen in this book. Honestly, these books are pivotal, and sometimes I find myself dropping the book, dreading what I think would come ahead. Then the next few days or hours later, I'd pick it up again because I want to know what happens. This is strange for me, as I am developing the "next book" phobia, thinking the next book of the series won't be that good. I hope that phobia is destroyed now, because this book was great.
I gave this book 4.5 stars- I took off half a star in this book mainly because the plot was a bit weak to me, like something had just been added to the story, and then expanded. I accepted this part part of the story later on, though, given the events that happen by the end of the story- I thought it was so awesome. Although I loved the book, at first, I hated the fact that when I started reading the book, it was as if everything we've known has never been true. No spoilers here, so I think I'll shut up with that. I also learnt to accept this, although I hate hated it.
I love how the problems come and go - like one moment, from fear, the next to relief, sadness, happiness. This way, new problems can be added and resolved and there are more twists to the story. It feels like there's lots of stories in this book. Cat goes through a lot, and one of the most painful to read was how they dealt with the issues in their relationship. Trust, for one, was their greatest issue. I didn't expect Cat's decision at a crucial point in the book so I was a bit surprised where it suddenly came from. It was alright, though, a bit later on. Their relationship definitely grew stronger in this book, which it makes it seem realistic. They focus on their problems, accept their differences, and they try to make it work. Cat doesn't run off and date other guys when she has problems with Bones. She doesn't have multiple love interests (not really) either, which is great. I really don't understand the need why girls in other books feel the need to be with other guys or date to get their point across or even if it was just for fun because it was 'healthy' for a heartbroken girl. Love shouldn't be like that. And it wasn't - and never was in this series.
One of the things I love in this series, is that even if Bones wants Cat safe, they work together and each fight their own battles too. Cat knows how to save herself. What other books does this happen to? They also work extremely well as a team.
This book definitely still has its humour, and Jeaniene Frost writes stories so well. Her dialogue is great, the emotions are printed to convey the emotions in such a way- when Cat mopes, she doesn't stay so in an intolerable "do something" way, because she is so helpless. She fights and she gets back up. I think that is really important. Breaking and hurting, putting yourself back together, but not entirely losing hope either. With Cat, she still believes somehow.
I think I can expect another great book in the series, so I will be reading the next. Jeaniene Frost won't disappoint with this newest addition to her series."
