"The authors take the liberty of assuming that you're semi-intelligent and don't oversimplify things (very much) or talk down to their readers. It is very easy to read, and glides through tough subject matter with ease and humor. This book is just a way for people who've never been exposed to classical music on a grand scale to find out about it's history, the diverse styles and composers of classical music and a little about musical theory and application. I should've learned this stuff in Orchestra class, and indeed a lot of it was a refresher course, but as a musical student in middle school and high school I was more interested in the hands on aspect of class rather than the the history and science of it."

How about "Classical Music for Moderately Intelligent People with Little Background in the Topic"? If anyone can recommend such a book, please let me know."
