"This book is an odd hybrid of Georgian/Regency romance and horror. I have to admit I was attracted to this book simply by virtue of the fact that it combined two of my favorite genres - Jane Austen and zombies. And the author does an admirable job of using actually passages from Pride and Prejudice in the narrative. However this novel just didn't do it for me. It didn't satisfy me. I knew there was a problem when I put it down for two days after reading the first few chapters. This book just didn't engage me.
There are some moments that are unexpected and somewhat entertaining such as the fight scene between Lady Catherine and Elizabeth and the ultimate fates of Mr. Collins and Mr. Wickham. I found the fight scenes against the dreadfuls rather tame and uneventful and even the rivalry between the Japanese trained warriors and those trained in Chinese techniques was a bit boring.
I did like that the author offered a bit more insight into Lizzy's mind about certain events. And he carries the tale a bit beyond the original ending by including a bit of an update regarding how the Bingley and Dacrys settled into married life and how the Wickhams were getting on. Despite these elements, the book was disappointing.
As others have said - it was as bad as I feared or as good as I'd hoped. I think it's a fascinating concept - how would Regency society deal with a plague of zombies, but perhaps instead of using such beloved characters as those in Austen's novel, the author should have simply created his own."

"I was really disappointed in this book because I like my zombies to be over the top and blood thirsty, but I found these zombies to be pretty lame. Yes they did crash a few parties, but they were so easily killed that they weren't scary. I never once feared for the characters' lives at any point of the book. I was excited about this book because I was hoping that the writer would just do some crazy things like turning one of the Bennet girls into a zombie; however, I was extremely disappointed that Grahame-Smith just added tidbits of zombies to the overall story.
Overall it was an okay read. I wouldn't say it was horrible because the original "Pride and Prejudice" story line saved it, but it just wasn't as original as I would have liked. The beginning of the book was good, but it lost steam about halfway through. It almost seemed like Grahame-Smith got bored. I think I enjoyed the illustrations more than the text by the end of the novel. I may have enjoyed this book a bit more if I hadn't just read the original "Pride and Prejudice" last week, but I felt like it was the same book just with the word zombie thrown in every once and a while. I think it would have been more successful as a short story. I don't think it warranted an entire novel."
