"CONTAINS MANY SPOILERS: Although I am enjoying this series overall, some of the storylines are getting a little too over the top for me especially nearing the end of this one. Just when is "Miss Carolina Broad's" luck going to run out? There is no one is the history of mankind that has had as much luck as her each time she becomes destitute. And why she doesn't remember such hardships and plan accordingly for the future is beyond me. Next in line we have little Diana Holland who is running off to find Henry...in the military. A girl who has never left the comforts of her lavish home is joining the military after her lying, cheating "true love." We'll see what happens in that storyline. And of course, things end well for Elizabeth Holland which I was happy with but I'm wondering what Snowden Cairns' true motivations are. Why is he always rescuing the family with which he really doesn't have any real connections to? I guess we'll see what happens in the fourth and final installment of the Luxe series."
"**SPOILER ALERT** Envy is not as enjoyable as Rumors because I only obtained more hatred for Penny and Lina and more sorrowful for the Holland Family. When is this author going to bring things around? I believe this book could have been left out of the series. I'm ready for the end and final book. My patience for some of the characters is waning. By the way, I'm still trying to piece Penelope into the prologue of this book. Maybe Anna Godbersen gave a prologue to both Envy and Splendor. I'm ready for a break; Splendor comes out in late October and I'll read it this winter, but I'm not devastated to have to wait. I'm frustrated with Henry and Diana. Some of their choices seem irrational. For example, Henry's marriage to Penelope just didn't make sense. When Penelope threatened to ruin Diana's reputation, I didn't understand why Henry didn't threaten to ruin hers as well. I mean he took Penny's virginity too; what's the difference to him. Why not threaten her back instead of bid into her games. ugh, I was deeply annoyed by that, especially since Henry knows Penelope so well and has for many years. A little frustrating at times, but overall I've enjoyed the characters and story line of these books."
"OK- let me just say.....there is a point in the book (towards the end) where you have a Scarlet moment (it cracked me up)- you will know what I'm talking about when you get to it.
I guess I should get online to see if there is a fourth book coming out (there better be)......I need more closure from the ending than what I got (but wasn't as bad as the second book-in terms of leaving you hanging).
I loved this series mostly because of all the romance/drama and really can you beleive that it doesn't have any of my vampire/goulish characters in it (and I still liked it).
This whole era is just so facinating to me -love the dresses (love the covers of the books) - it almost made me sit here and think how fun it would be to be able to wear one (maybe once). The whole idea of how the "rich society" lived back then.....how a newspaper article/gossip/drama/dress/ and love functioned........(you couldn't pick up the phone to have a conversation)-all good stuff. I could have a book club discussion on these. Anybody? (jk)"
"Why oh why do I love this series? I know that things aren't going to go the way I want, because how can there be a happy ending when more books are coming and the drama needs to be drawn out in another 500 page book? But for some reason I keep coming back. I've been addicted to The Luxe series since it began and Envy continues to add more gossip and scandal to the story. I really like The Luxe, but then the second book, Rumors, seemed to move really slow. I was glad to see the story pick up again in this one. I loved that the author moved a lot of the action to Florida-it added new scenery and lots of fun situations. There were many times I told myself "just one more chapter" because I needed to know what would happen next.
Each chapter tells a part of the story from a different character and I found myself enjoying each storyline this time around. Yes, I still wanted to yell at Penelope, would get annoyed at Carolina's social climbing, and tell Diana not to make so many stupid assumptions, but I think that's part of the fun of The Luxe series. Anna Godbersen does such a great job at getting the readers involved in the characters that you can't help but cheer them on, or even root against them. I also thought there were some characters this time around who got stronger and started to stand up for themselves, so I'm eager to see where they end up. The ending left me wanting more, of course, and I will be first in line to get my hands on a copy of Spelndor, the next (and final?) book in The Luxe series. I would recommend this to fans of romance or gossip girl style books."
