"Book#1-Secret Vampire: Poppy North is an ordinary teenage girl with an ordinary life, she has a twin brother named Phil and is the complete opposite of her. Smart, good at sports, tall and good looks. She also has a best friend named James who is incredibly handsome, smart, and just perfect.Poppy has always had a secret crush on James and hoped they would get married someday. They all thought this would be the best summer ever, until the unexpected happened. Poppy had been experiencing a pain in her stomach, she thought it was just the flu, but when her mom takes her to the doctor they find out that Poppy has a very rare case of cancer in the pancreas which no patient has ever survived. When James hears about this he is devastated and immediately tries to find a way to help his friend. Oh, something i forgot to tell you about James, hes a vampire and lives in the Night world, which is all around us, it includes vampires, werewolves, witches, and other magical creatures hiding out as humans. The two laws of the Night world is to never reveal yourself to a human and you can never fall in love with one. When no one can help James he decides to turn Poppy into a vampire which would require telling her about Night world. He begins to fall in love with Poppy as they meet more and more. James is already breaking one Night world law will he break the other one by turning Poppy into a vampire? You decide.I thought this book was a very good love story but with a deadly twist."
"Honestly I did not like this book. It was a huge disappiontment. I wish it was more discriptive about the romantic scenes and if they werent so rushed I think alot of people would have liked them better except me hee hee. Almost every story had a happy go lucky ending. How faerie-taleish!Each story was about children of the night world falling in love with humans even when the humans were their soulmates. okay they find their human soulmates (which is against the rules), fight to stay together and no real edginess happens. I mean you just don't feel the vive. I'm a teenager and to me this book was poorly written and boring. I would let my 11 year old sister read this and hope she doesnt get bored by it. I would only read the other two books in the series unles I have read every book in the world and am completely bored. Yea thats not likely to happen! So Im pretty much saying I will not be reading the next books....ever!"
"This book is a collection of three short books the first two of which focus on vampires and the last is on witches. The first two are loosely connected as a minor character in the first one is the main character in the second. The three have one thing in common, all the supernatural beings belong to a society called Nightworld. Nightworld has rules and they can't be broken. Or at least, if you do break them, be prepared to run or fight. Of the three, I like Secret Vampire the best. It's an interesting idea--if you were dying of a terminal disease and you had the opportunity to cure yourself but the cure would involve becoming a vampire, would you? And if you were the vampire who could do this but it would break one of the rules of the society you belong to, would you? Daughters of Darkness, the second is a more conventional romance, a vampire who falls for a human (the irony being that he has publically stated that humans are second class citizens). They find that they are soulmates but that doesn't necessarily mean that they wind up together. That's mostly because the human girl in the picture isn't sure she wants to be soulmated with a vampire. Spellbinder follows two sisters (witches) as they start a new school having been kicked out of the last one. One of them finds herself falling for a local boy, the other tries to steal him away. The usual stuff. All three stories are engaging and actually aren't too long so that you lose interest. The endings are a bit short changed but not too bad. Overall fun."
Secret Vampire: A very generic title for a surprisingly intriguing little book. Like so much of Smith's work, it's an extremely entertaining page-turner despite not really reinventing the wheel of the vamp genre.
Daughters of Darkness: This has the most dynamic characters out of the three novels. I always gravitate towards the bad boys redeemed by love...sigh. Overall, a good ensemble cast, some of whom are sure to pop up in the next two Night World volumes.
Spellbinder: The guiltiest pleasure of the three, Spellbinder is cheesy as hell but also very entertaining. Let's put it this way: it contains the following line: "By the Blue Monkey-headed Goddess of Inquisitiveness!" It's quite a bit like Smith's Secret Circle series, and I actually found Spellbinder's Blaise to be a better defined version of the same character type fulfilled by Faye in S.C."
