"Excellent book. So helpful in hitting the reset button on the perspective of marriage. How our marriages picture the reality of Christ and His Bride, the Church and why that matters and what it means everyday. I highly recommend it!"
"usually i don't want to read marriage books because they're cheesy and shallow---that is Not the case here! Piper expounds on what marriage really is--a covenant and a metaphor of Christ's relationship with the church--and how knowing what marriage is should affect our value of marriage (and our actions as married people). The chapter on being a submissive wife was one of the best things i have EVER read on being a wife--where i'd expected to see corny things about splitting up chores, etc, the first thing he tells us is that being a submissive wife means hoping in God (and being Fearless!). this book gave me a new idea of what a submissive wife truly is--i'd always thought i wasn't so good at being submissive because i have an opinion!--but it confirmed that how bryan and i relate to each other as a married couple truly is Biblical, and that i should be even stronger than i am, more fearless, able to laugh at the future (like Abraham's wife, Sarah). Bryan and i both found this book to be extremely encouraging and revolutionary to how we had previously thought about some issues, particularly in his controversial last two chapters. Overall, i highly recommend it!!"
"Piper repeatedly expresses how marriage is a covenant that exemplifies Christ's covenant with the church -- He is married to the church and will never break His covenant. This book is repitious in part, but the points he makes are so profound that they warrant repeating."
"Piper never lacks boldness, and he is certainly not lacking in this book, especially the last two chapters where he takes a minority (very narrow) position on divorce and remarriage. He covers the gamut in the book and does so admirably, and while I wouldn't agree with him down the line, I appreciate and respect his approach as always."
