"This series has gotten better as it has gone on. This was a big book in reference to what went down. I feel like there was so much more to this book than the others.
Schyler is torn between 2 boys, knows it is not a good situation, but doesn't seem to want to do anything about it, she pretty much wants to have her cake and eat it too. In the end she realizes that it is not possible and makes a choice.
Mimi is classic Mimi at the beginning of this book. As the story goes on, I felt myself start to feel sorry for her. While she isn't the nicest person she does have a great read on Jack and what he is like as person, and that person hasn't really changed this time around. In the end she is the one that truly understands him and accepts him for who he really is. I admire that about her.
With this book I find I am really starting to hate Jack. I think that Mimi is right when she says that he tries to be 2 different people, one to everyone else and one to her. No matter what he wants to be like he is who he really is in the end.
Oliver has developed a back bone now and I like it, I love how he is still looking out for Schyuler, even at great lenghts.
Poor Bliss, Dylan, and Jordan. Those 3 seem to be in bad situations all around. I got my answers to questions left from the previous book, but did have some more come around this time. There is so much that is hidden with these 3, from themselves, from others, and from each other. I feel bad for what they have to go through and can't imagine if they really understood what they were doing they wouldn't.
In the end the big battle happens and we finally do find out which Blue Bloods were helping the Silver ones. It was shocking what happened at the end. Can't wait to find out what happens next!!"
"Schuyler Van Alen has been ripped from her ancestral home when Charles Force defeated Lawrence Van Alen for custody in the Red Blood courts. Charles has forbidden contact with Lawrence and Oliver and the Force Mansion is far from the loving home she's used to. Adding angst to the plot is knowing that Schuyler is torn between two men who both truly love her. Both men however are forbidden from being with her. One is forbidden by law and the other by destiny. The choice she made towards the end wasn't really that surprising for me--knowing that her character just had to do the "right" thing.
Mimi Force has become even more of a foe since Schuyler saved her life in Venice. The blood trial proved Mimi hadn't called the Silver Blood, but she knows Jack's true desires, how the Light can call to the Dark, taking it over with it's brightness. Schuyler is the Light, daughter of the angel Gabrielle, Allegra Van Alen. Jack Force, Abbadon, one of the Dark, Angel of Destruction, has always been drawn towards the Light. He wants Schuyler with every breathe of his being, but the bonding of Mimi and Jack has already been announced. He knows there is a way to break the bond that binds himself to Mimi, but is he strong enough to win? The twins, Death and Destruction have always gone together, would always belong to each other. What has gone wrong this time? Why is he lying to her? Will she have to destroy him to save him? It is Vampire Law and Lore to kill those who stray from their twins.
The Silver Bloods are evidently somehow infiltrated into some of the prestigious Blue Bloods families but no one knows who or where. With Lawrence running the Council, things are changing at Duchesne school. The students are now learning more about how to defend themselves (I hope that De La Cruz would devote more pages to this one and really explore vampire's defense techniques). Things are getting worse for Bliss; who instead of just having blackouts is now plagued by horrible visions while awake too. Something is wrong in South America and Lawrence is called away to deal with it. The revelation regarding Bliss and Jordan wasn't that well executed I'm afraid, mainly because there were enough clues littering the three books to give it away. I just hope De La Cruz doesn't disappoint with the conclusion she has in mind.
"Revelations (Blue Bloods, Book 3)" is the strongest book in the series so far. It's an incredible teenage angst story of split loyalties and torn love who want nothing more than to belong to each other, but each with the knowledge that it is an impossible task to fulfill. I enjoyed this entry into the "Blue Bloods" saga greatly and recommend to those who love YA, forbidden love, and vampires all rolled into one. The end of the story is a shocker, where the Silver Bloods lets the force be felt. It is an excellent addition, leaving me longing for the next book, "The Van Alen Legacy (Blue Bloods, Book 4)".
Book Details:
Title Revelations (Blue Bloods, Book 3) Author Melissa De La Cruz Reviewed By Purplycookie"
"de la Cruz's Blue Blood series has definitely put a unique flavor into vampire lore. In the third novel, the Blue Bloods (a.k.a. vampires) have recovered from the the trouble they face in Venice in the previous novel. Schuyler Van Alen is still dealing with the fact her grandmother has passed away while she learns to live with her new identity. She has moved in with the force family, and this means coming head to head with the difficult Mimi.
Mimi, Schuyler, and Bliss all attend an exclusive private school in Manhattan. They are from the big families that have had all the money and the power in the city for generations. If Edith Wharton were still alive and writing today, the lifestyles of these characters would be her focus.
Mimi is really coming into her power. Not only is she reaching the age where people view her as an adult, but her memories of previous incarnations are coming to the fore. You see the Blue Bloods are not only vampires, but they are the angels of Christian lore. Their enemies, the Silver Bloods, are the Fallen.
Mimi and her twin Jack have been soul mates through the centuries. They are two powerful angels that helped lead the battle against Lucifer and his followers during the great war. Now, she is hoping to rekindle their relationship only to be confronted with the fact that Jack is quite interested in Schuyler.
Everything is thrown up in the air when Dylan, a Blue Blood who had previously been corrupted by the Silver Bloods, returns. It soon becomes clear that everyone's assumptions about him are wrong, and the Blue Bloods still have a traitor among them.
Everything comes to a head as the major characters race to Rio de Janeiro in the hopes of preventing a Silver Blood plot tied to Jesus the Redeemer, the famous statue on a mount on the outskirts of the city. Can Schuyler and the others sort out what is going on before all is lost?
These books are great at showing that nothing is ever what it seems. The author has artfully formed a series of books that seems to meld the high school intrigue of the wealthy found in the Gossip Girl with a Gothic sense of the paranormal. I have to admit that I was a big fan of the first book, which gives the series its name, and enjoyed the second book, which was called Masquerade.
The storyline of this book was very interesting, but it seemed to be overpowered by the high school interaction of the students. While Bliss, Mimi, and Schuyler still live exceptional lives because of the vampiric/angelic powers, they are still totally obsessed with who is going to be bonded with who and sorting out family troubles. You would think that in the centuries and lives they have passed through, they would have gotten past that.
This means that the "big battle" that happens at the end is brought to the fore in the last 40 pages or so, not really giving enough build up to the action or a chance for the reader to get a sense of the enormity of the challenge the Blue Bloods are facing. I would not change the plot a bit, but I would have adjusted the writing to provide a better balance of between the two arcs."
"Melissa de la Cruz just keeps getting better and better. The first two Blue Bloods books were good, but Revelations was great. New York City's bloodsucking elite are back: this time better developed characters that I felt more sympathetic towards. There's Schuyler, the half-human, half-vampire who is a confused pawn in her chaotic life. Her new housemates are Mimi-the scheming, power hungry popular girl at school- and Jack Force, the boy she is forbidden to love. In fact, Jack and Mimi (who are twins) are actually set to have a vampire wedding in a matter of months. There's Oliver, Schuyler's best friend, servant, and newly made familiar. And then there's Bliss, a red-headed Texan who's never really belonged and is now suffering from disturbing visions. Revelations picks up shortly after where the last book left off. Dylan is back, apparently a raving lunatic who is accusing his friends of being Silver Bloods. The threat of the Silver Bloods is rising and behind this world of glittering parties and fashion shows lurks danger. The story was perfectly balanced, with forbidden romance and ancient intruiges; Bliss and Schuyler's modeling and sinister vampire attacks. This book practically tingles with suspense; I just had to find out how it ended. And after reading the excerpt from the next installment I can hardly wait for it to be released. Sexy and riveting, the third Blue Bloods novel is truly delicious."
