"Rudyard Kipling's Maugli meets Jonathan Swift's Gulliver. Little boy is forced to start up living in different close societies throughout the galaxy and eventually conquer them (since the boy turns out to be the most clever, most charming and whatever most you wish (for unknown reason)): military world, bussines world, archaic matriarchy society, eastern despotism If I understood metaphor right, the book tells you that A person can beat any system if he\she is commited and strong enough. IMO this is only partly true- if A person means definition, not concrete human being. No concrete human being could practically beat any totalitarian or despotic regime, but in a way centuries after we always know that Socrates is MORE then Athens, although as a person he lost and was executed. That was my second Heinlein. Yes, his books are page-turners indeed, biggest problem for me with them is shallowness of the characters. It looks like he chooses metaphor, invents plot and landscape casing (rather expressivly sometimes, well-built logically), but when it comes to life of his characters their vitality, fidelity of their reactions, mental turns - Heinlein uses only the most trite cliches one can imagine."

"I have a friend who contends that this is the greatest sci-fi book for young adults ever published. While I certainly agree that this is a fine book for that (and all) ages, particularly as it may be a useful teaching tool for certain history, social studies, and civics classes, I still think "Ender's Game" takes the cake.
The characters are well thought out and the plot is solid. I think there could be more galaxy gallivanting, maybe a few more episodes for young Thorby, but at the same time the plot is fairly tight, and that feeling may just be the yearning I get with every book that I enjoy: I wish there was more. Of course Robert Heinlein did write another 45 or so books, and the other two of his that I've read "Starship Troopers" and "Tunnel in the Sky" I've also enjoyed. Orson Scott Card has written many novels as well, but I was never able to get into "Speaker For the Dead," and I feel as though my politics and particular sociological interests align somewhat more closely with those that seep into Heinlein novels.
Certainly I feel I should read some more Heinlein. Any suggestions?"
"It's unbelievable that this book was written in the late 50's. It was very engaging. The only thing I did not like is he ending, I think he left it open for another book that he never wrote."
