"I have read all of Mary Higgins Clark's books and it was a nice surprise to find her latest on the shelf at the library and that I hadn't read this one yet. Mary and her daughter came to my school to speak in April, sponsored by the country library system, and because I ushered, I got to sit on the front row. It was nice to hear how they do their writing, both separately and together.
I usually get through her books quickly, because I can't put them down. And, once again, I couldn't figure out who "did it." She is my favorite, when it comes to suspense. No profanity, sex or violence and impossible to guess the ending."
"Mary Higgins Clark is my guilty pleasure. Even though she is sentimental and spends an inordinate amount of time describing what the women characters are wearing, she knows how to draw you into her books and her writing is very visceral. Many of her books are not v. good. This one actually is, though. More complex than many of her previous efforts, with a number of bad guys. Not "real literature", to quote myself, but lots of fun nonetheless."
"I have been reading a lot of deeper things lately - some that I add to Goodreads and some that I don't, so it was time for lighter fare. That's usually when I pull out something like a Mary Higgins Clark book. I will admit that her plots and characters are usually way over the top or extremely unbelievable but I can typically suspend belief to enjoy them. This one, however, pushed the envelope even for me. This is not spoiling anything because you learn this either on the book jacket of very early on in the book - 1)the prosecuting attorney Emily Wallace has had a heart transplant, 2) she doesn't know it, but she's prosecuting the husband of the murder victim whose heart she has, 3)she lives next door to a serial killer, 4) she quickly gives said serial access to her home to walk her dog without any real knowledge of who he is, 5) the serial killer wants to kill her, 6)without spoiling the remainder of the plot, let me just say that Emily couldn't work with or for shadier people. Which ones are they? Read the book. But REALLY?! No actual person has this much drama in their life so I found this book to be too unrealistic even for a light on the brain, mystery fare."
"Mary Higgins Clark books will always remind me of my grandma. Whenever a new book she writes is released my Gram will purchase it. I love it. Her bookcase downstairs is filled with every single novel, I daresay, Clark has written. Also for as long as I can remember, my Gram is always gracious enough to let my sisters, aunt and I borrow it. This was the case with Just Take My Heart. Like most Higgins Clark mystery/thrillers, this was a light quick read. A famous actress, in the midst of a divorce, is shot and killed in her home. Her soon to be ex-husband is the prime suspect. A prosecutor named Emily Wallace is assigned to try the case. She lost her husband in Iraq and she also recently received a heart transplant. Emily also has a creepy neighbor who is constantly spying on her and actually plotting to kill her. As you can see from this brief blurb there is a lot of story lines. It managed to wrap up nicely but felt slightly contrived especially with the revelation on the last page, something I guessed from (spoiler alert-sort of!) title. It was entertaining, but not one of my favorites of this author.
