"I have mixed feelings about this book. As a sahm I welcome any praise for the job that I do. However, I felt she was very negative towards any other kind of options. Yes, a mother's care is the best option (in my opinion) and I don't necessarily need someone to convince me of that and I believe this book does a lot of convincing. In some instances a sahm is not a workable situation and I believe those moms need support too. Dr Laura did make me think about a few things I hadn't thought of and I hope I can try harder to look for quality moments with my kids. I agreed with her position on most things (i.e. how to take care of your husband and the fact that in our changing society sahms do need more recognition for the amount of responsibility they have), but my agreement also made it less essential for me to keep reading. I got a little bored reading my own viewpoints. Overall, a great book for those trying to make a difficult choice between going back to work and staying home with a crying infant."
"This book was given to me for mother's Day from a relative. I don't really care for Dr. Laura, I've listened to her here and there. Everyone has their opinions about her, but overall I think she's OK.
I felt from the beginning this book was directed towards "career" moms. Not already Stay-at-home mom's. I think that if I was a career mom and was on the fence on staying home or not, then this would be a great book to give me that final push to make the transition. But since I'm already at home, I found it a little annoying. I thought it would be more about why stay-at-home mom's are good for kids and what good things come from it. And yes, it did have some things like that. But overall it was more geared towards the career mom's and if you were at home, then you can see your child do this and this and that. She had good intentions and she wrote some good things."
"Two stars means "it was okay" and that's about all I can say for this book. I didn't hate it. I am a stay at home mom, for Pete's sake! I just thought it would be better titled, "In criticism of working moms." She just attacks them over and over, pretty harshly. I believe in staying at home, but I don't know if she goes about the argument the right way(aka rage-filled ranting). I also think she paints too pretty a picture of staying at home. She talks about how you're there to see all the "firsts" and to give hugs and watch the darlings grow, etc. She glosses over the fact that it's HARD!!!! Way harder then any job I've ever been paid for! Anyway, there's my two cents. I guess the bottom line was, I wanted a book admitting that what I do is hard and encouraging me to keep at it, but this book is more for the "thinking about quitting my job" or the "stay at home moms are worthless" crew, not the ones already living it."
