"So, let's see. Despite cliches, I enjoyed this book. Maybe because Derek Kirk Kim's art is so wonderful.
But about those cliches. I mean, what is a cliche? I think of it as something I've seen before, too many times. So many times, in fact, that I can PREDICT how the story will turn out. (I admit I did not predict the last two stories, only the first.) I do like how all the stories explored the same theme, and in my opinion they got better as the book went on. And as I've said, DKK is amazing with the art. And the "Eternal Smile" story had some amazing writing. Thank you, Mr. Yang."
"Wonderful set of three stories in one volume, with excellent artwork and storylines that make you think. "Duncan's Kingdom" is about a medieval knight who discovers his world is not what it seems. Very poignant twist to the story. "Granpa Greenbax and the Eternal Smile" is the weirdest story, about a frog who's kind of like Uncle Scrooge from Disney, always concerned only with making money, until he discovers the Eternal Smile hanging in the sky. he builds a church devoted to the Smile! But again, there's a weird twist to it. And "Urgent Request" was really my favorite: how a mousy office worker responds to a hoax email and gets some satisfaction in her life. Very cool."

"I've enjoyed both of these artists' graphic novels in the past, and I was not let down by these 3 great short stories. The illustrated stories in this collection are so stylistically different yet complimentary to one another, with similar themes of fantasy and escapism.
The 2nd and 3rd stories in particular stood out to me. The second story (The Eternal Smile) is about a money-loving frog named Gran'pa Greenbax who wants to scheme and collect as much money as he can so he can build a giant money pool and jump in it (Ducktales, anyone?), but there is an admirably clever and unexpected twist in the end. The last story (Urgent Request) is about a lonely, gullible office assistant named Janet who is delighted to find a "Nigerian prince" through her email. The most remarkable thing about this story is the artwork, which tells the story more powerfully than the words ever could. Janet's poor life is muted and drab and demoralizing, but her "Nigerian prince" comes along and opens up a lavish watercolor world of possibilities. Overall, an entertaining and interesting collection from two great artists."
