"This story is about about Cinderella and her neighbor Cinder Edna. They both work for their wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Cinderella is rescued by her fairy godmother, while Cinder Edna lives happily ever and has a different approach on life."
"This book was a fun read that shares a traditional tale in a fun and empowering new light. The story of the two Cinderellas shows young readers that they can be self-reliant and strong!"
"I really enjoyed this modern reevaluation of Cinderella. I read this tale of two "Cinders" to my daughter and loved that she saw that being "prettier" does not mean being happier. I love that Cinder Edna makes the best of her situation by learning from it, as evidenced by her extensive repetoire of tuna casserole recipes and spot removal skills. She is down-to-earth and has a wonderfully developed sense of humor. She is self-reliant and self-employed, using her earnings from her bird-cage cleaning to buy a dress on lay-away and taking the bus to the ball. She is not taken in by the shallow prince, but instead falls for his environmentally-conscious animal-loving younger brother, who also appreciates jokes and tuna casserole. This story shows a real, healthy relationship where the two people involved share common interests (for example, Edna and Rupert both play a musical instrument and play duets together) and also learn about each other's interests (for example, Edna studies waste disposal engineering after they are married). The illustrations convey messages beyond the text, such as the expression on Cinderella's fairy godmother's face when, after providing Cinderella's wardrobe, Cinderella then asks for transportation. The author writes, "The fairy godmother was surprised that her god-daughter couldn't seem to figure anything out for herself," but the illustration shows the godmother looking quite put upon. I loved the illustrations contrasting Cinderella (without Randolph) looking bored, and Cinder Edna and Rupert working and laughing happily together."
