"A "Survivor" based book based on the gods is definately a good description. Who would have thought that the cruel vampire in the first book would become so softhearted as to give up the compatition?"
"Oh wow, is this bad. Usually, I try to find something redeeming about books, and it's true that I haven't read a romance novel since I was in high school, but really, this book is better used as kindling than reading material. I read the book in the first place because it was obviously about vampires, and there's very little my students like more at the moment than a hot vampire. Unfortunately, I was quickly sunk in a mishmash of mythology (since when was Poseidon a god of a culture that had a well-developed vampire myth?) and people with insane sexual needs and passions. All of that aside, I could forgive the tale if it were well-written, but it just wasn't. The same weak adjectives show up over and over, applied to almost every situation, two storylines pop up with previously unmentioned characters for the sole purpose of padding out the original story line and adding sex scenes, and the main plot is shortchanged for lack of author ingenuity. None of that is the capital sin, however. The REALLY bad part is that this is the THIRD book in a string of four! Come on, publishing world. Romance is OK, but give women a little credit."
"Even when I say I won't read Gena Showalter again, I tend to pick up her books because I KNOW that i have to finish this series. It was hard to engage myself at the beginning. I literally forced myself to read the chapters until I found something I enjoyed, which ended up being Alyssa and Shivawn's story. I then found myself skipping chapters to read their story instead of Delilah and Layel's Survivor: Paradise story. Their story was boring...It's all "I hate you because I want your body which means i secretly love you". It was a mess. A big mess. For some reason, this whole story just seemed so inconsistent, I really couldn't enjoy myself.
It was like this with the Nymph King, but i actually enjoyed the nymph king. This book was a disaster (no offense Gena showalter). There's something in this book that's just....missing."
"Gena Showalter is an interesting author. Her paranormal romance books are enjoyable. She (generally) moves away from the typical creatures of the genre and writes strong female characters (in this case an Amazon warrior). I am hoping her YA fiction is as enjoyable as the Atlantis series."
