"Zoey Redbird is having serious issues... still! She's now seeing all three guys: Heath, Erik, and Loren. And now she could be losing her best friend Stevie Rae... again. Stevie Rae is already undead after her body rejected the Change at the First Full Moon Ritual, and now she could be losing what little remaining humanity she has left to something dark. To make matters worse, Zoey is forced to lie to her friends in order to keep her secrets safe from Neferet. Someone that has totally done a 180 in the story and is no longerthe kind, loving woman she portrayed herself to be. Something is definitely up Neferet's sleeve...
First off, I have to say I really feel for Zoey and her boy problems. Even though she repeatedly refers to her ho-ish behavior as wrong and yet she still continues to date all three guys. She knows what she's doing is really wrong. She does go to Heath and tries to break up with him (again) and fails (again). But after a really hot scene with him I can't necessarily say I blame her. I swear I've personally been in her position and picked the wrong guy. *sigh* So I can't tell you who she ended up picking... but I can say that sadly her choice was wrong.
Another thing I'd like to bring up is Aphrodite and her growing relationship with Zoey. I could definitely see them becoming allies since Betrayed. But their relationship really makes me laugh. They try so hard not to be friends or care about each other. I mean Aphrodite is still a major bitch sometimes and even I want to smack her. She can't seem to get over herself and just be nice. Especially in the scenes with Stevie Rae when she just has to keep mentioning how bad she looks and how awful she smells. Hello! She's undead dead!! Of course she's going to smell. But there are times where her mask begins to crack and she shows how scared she truly is, which definitely shows her human side.
So I'm leaving a lot out because I don't want to spoil the story. But a lot of things take place at the House of Night. This is really a must read for any HOS fan. You'll really want to find out what happens in the end."
"I feel very conflicted about how to rate Chosen. It was a mish-mash of good and bad.
The Good: * I applaud the way the Stevie Rae situation was dealt with.
* I loved Aphrodite's character development and I hope she hasn't left the series.
The Bad: * Loren, Loren, Loren! Ugh, how could Zoey say she loved him, what an idiot, she barely knew him. To me the sex scene almost came off as rape because Loren cut himself and Zoey has no control over her bloodlust and the blood drinking makes her amorous then Loren ripped off her dress without her consenting to anything with a clear and sober head.
* Zoey losing her friends. I'm surprised they were so quick to abandon her after all they've been through. After all she was protecting them from Neferet by witholding the fact that Stevie Rae was still alive and the thing with Loren had only really took off and ended within the space of a few days - hardly a long affair.
I think that the Loren situation is a right of passage for Zoey, it was a wake-up call that Aphrodite was trying to give her that not all people are good.
I really hope we have not seen the last of Aphrodite, she's Zoey's strongest ally. I'm curious to see what will happen with Heath now, whether he will still have a tie to Zoey and his perpective of what happened when the Imprint was supposedly broken. I wonder if Erik will forgive her for her huge mistake now that he knows Neferet had a hand in what happened. Only three people other than Zoey know about Neferet's dark-side first-hand: Stevie Rae, Aphrodite and Erik, can they defeat her? I can't wait to find out how everyone will take Stevie Rae's rise from the dead, how will Neferet explain that?!"
"Oh my god, the Casts make Laurell K. Hamilton look like Margaret Atwood. This was one of the worst books I have ever read. Zoey has to be one of the least appealing Mary Sues in literature--and if there are any more obnoxious lurking out there, I hope I never crack their covers.
I had to read--and finish--this because Library Services alerted us to "questionable content." Well, it's crass and stupid and incredibly poorly written, but I think they are probably more bothered by 1) the cussing (whatever), 2) the drinking (which was so lame and such an obvious ploy to make "vampyres" cooler than actual teenagers, 3) the magic (magyk?) and/or 4) the sex. Three boyfriends? Now I know why the librarian at South County was so embarrassed trying to explain about this book when it ended up on an ALA list this summer. Still, even more annoying than Zoey and her indecisive loins was how she repeated called herself a "ho". You're the heroine of a stupid, cheesy, poorly thought-out wish fulfillment fantasy, honey. Of course all the boys are going to want you. Your authors wouldn't have it any other way. Please don't confuse yourself and traumatize the audience with guilt. Plus, if you'd realized it was just lust, you hormone-addled moron you might not have made the heinous mistake of sleeping with your teacher."
"Zoey has everything any teenager wish for. She have a boyfriend who love her so much, honest friends that would always be there for her, and even though she hates her mom ever since she has marry to John, she has loving people around her that treat her just like her mom would like Nerfert and best of all her grandmother. But still there's flaw that exist in her life, Aphrodite. But what happen if her beautiful life becomes a disaster everything from good turns to bad her life goes upside down. Her best friend Stevie Rae has become a heartless ghost and which has also lost trust in Zoey. Before her boyfriend came back, Zoey had an affair with her ex and this hot new teacher. Her most trustworthy Nerfert was ends up behind all this and wants to destroy Zoey. Even her friends no longer trusted Zoey because of all the secrets she has hid up. Now everyone has left Zoey and the only person she can go up to is Aphrodite. What is she going to do now? Her life was in heaven in one second but it was suddenly dropped down. How will Zoey fix this? At least some stuff is still the same. Her grandmother still loves her. Her mother is acting like a loser just like John. And Nyx (the goddess of vampryes) still believe in Zoey. Is Zoey able to have her happily ever after? Or will she have to live through this her whole life? I love this series "A House of Night Novel". Each different book has its own mystery. The reason why I love this series is it always end unexpectedly and you feel like you have to read the next sequel or else you would die of curiosity. I recommend this series because there is lots of problems that teens faces that happened to Zoey. Eventhough she's a vampryes that lives in a fantasy / sci-fi world but shes still a teenager. And plus this book is written by a teacher of high school and she had some help from her students, who know more than teenagers than other people. Teens themselves and the people around them!"
