"This book is great and very funny. I love the way it's written with dialogue and then with inner dialogue, which is very witty!
The book to me, seems a bit of a cross between "How Does She Do It" and "Friday Night Knitting Club." Both wonderful stories that are realistic and heartwarming and centered around the life a recently widowed wife makes after her husband tells her he wants a divorce and dies suddently in a car crash.
Jo moves out of London to the country, where she lives close to her Gran, and takes over her Gran's knitting shop. She has lots of unexpected adventures with her "famous" best friend by becoming a knitting coach to a star, starting a knitting program in her sons' school and most of all, creating wonderful friendships with the group members of the "Stitch and Bitch" club she creates.
"I loved this book. I started it last night, and basically read all day today (it's now 5:30 pm and I'm still in my pj's. This book was published in England in 2007 as "Diva's Don't Knit." I want to warn readers that the Beach Street Knitting Society and Yarn Club does not exist (at least not in this book). Jo Mackenzie is recently widowed and left with 2 young boys to raise. She decides to leave London and move to a small town on the beach and take over her grandmother's yarn shop. She quickly settles into the community, makes friends and continues to raise her sons. I gave it 5 stars, because immediately on finishing the book, and searched out her web page. She has written a sequel to this book and 3 earlier novels. I will be searching out and reading all of them."
"I just finished this book and feel it is worth sharing. The story is of a woman who experiences finding out about her husbands infidelity and then his death in the same short period of time. She moves to a small town to run the knitting shop her grandmother had owned. As she works through the first year after her husbands death, she is surrounded by the support of other women. I enjoy books in which the author shows how women can be there for one another."
"I am currently reading this book. My books finally got here from the library. The library is in the process of moving to a new building, so they have not been lending books. So far this is just the kind of book that keeps my interest, thanks Barb for recommending it. I am about half way through and can't wait to get finished and find out what happens to Jo and her family.
I have finished this book and enjoyed it very much. It had a lot of humor and mothering dos and don'ts. The characters were well defined and made a good story. After reading all of these knitting books I now know what I want to do in my retirement years, run a knitting shop. I enjoyed Jo and especially Gran who gave her the shop to start with. I wish I had a Gran that could do that for me!"
