"I really enjoyed Howard Zinn's progressive spin on US history. Reading these two volumes was like rapid cycling through my pre-collegiate education; I can almost hear the whir of the overhead in ninth grade history as I learned about now forgotten topics like Eugene Debs and the Korean War. Some periods are still clear (who isn't overly familiar with WW2 and the Civil Rights movement?) but others have been forgotten. Best of all, Zinn puts this all from the perspective of common people. It's a great way to get kids to see history through a new lens."
"When I was a kid in US History class, we always started with Columbus and never got much past WWII (with the exception of learning about MLK and Jim Crow stuff). I appreciated that this book went on from there."
