"Though I enjoyed the book, I did not enjoy it as much as the 1st one of hers I read. It is hard to say exactly why but this book did not grab me and pull me into the story. Perhaps it is that I have a read another author's version of the same story, or maybe it just was not as appealing. but I could not really identify with the characters in this story."
"I became really interested in the history of the Tudors last summer after reading/seeing The Other Boleyn Girl. I was looking forward to reading this book about the life of Henry VII, seeing how it led up to what all I'd read about before. However, I had a difficult time getting through it because, in my opinion, it was not well-written. I found her writing style to be quite repetitive, and she obviously has some favorite words because they pop up over and over again."
"Not quite a novel, this read more like the shortened biography of King Henry VII and Queen Elizbeth of the House of York. Descended from a bastard of a previous king, we see "the Tudor" of Lancaster steal the crown of England from King Edward and marry his daughter, Elizabeth, forever uniting the two most powerful houses in the country. This is the story of their uneasy rise to power and how they raised their children, the most famous becoming Henry VIII. Told from the points of view of both the King and Queen, the children and other royal figures from the time period, the reader sees how decisions made by a powerful person can change your life for better or worse. While most of the world is focused on Henry VIII and his wives, it was intriguing to read about his upbringing and glimpse how his life shaped him to be King of England."
"This was a good story, but it was very much Henry VII's story despite the "love story" billing that the publisher gave it. It was a good picture of the personal cost of royal leadership in a time of great turmoil."
