"Beautiful writing (would that my French was good enough to read the original), beautiful imagery, but the stories are a cavalcade of the worst horrors of life--rape, suicide, oppressed immigrants, overdevelopment..."
"The stories were not bad, but depressing and I wasn't in the mood. I read it in the english translation and think it would have been better in the original language."
"A bit excessive in the long descriptive passages in the service of creating generally bleak moods and environments for the characters to act out stories which are a bit too blatantly politically leftist for my tastes ("oh!, pity the downtrodden, expoited, etc..."). There is some real poetic writing, however, which raises it from 2 to 3 stars for me."
