"This is my fave Vampire Academy book so far. Rose and Dimitri finally give in to their feeling for each other. It had everthing and even though the ending was a shock (to me anyway) and sad, it leaves you wanting more. And counting down the days to Blood Promise (book 4) on your calender"
"I loved this book & now the series as a whole. I cannot wait until the next one. This is a very adult worthy read, IMO.
I saw huge parallels or rather - I felt this was a fabulous homage to Joss Whedon's brilliant Buffy series.
Fans who read this will know what I mean after they read book 2 & now this one.

I have to admit I did not see coming Dimtri becoming Strigoi . That nearly ripped my heart out. Absolutely wrenching. And for those Buffy fans; It was also sooo reminiscent of Angel losing his soul again after he experiences true happiness after he & Buffy sleep together.
I also felt the Adrian was very similar to Spike's character. Rebellious & cocky but vulnerable underneath. Of all people - he sees what is going on w/Rose, while her best friend remains clueless.
While Mason's death in Book 2 (another shocker for me) reminded me so much of the death of Jenny Calander. In season 2 of Buffy, that moment was a true turning point in the series & the same could definitely be said about Book 2 (Frostbite) w/the death of Mason.
From that point, I knew Ms.Mead was prepared to take big & shocking risks & pull those punches in order to develop her main character, Rose.
This isn't your ordinary YA book. Again - much like Buffy - it seems as if Mead is going to great & realistic lengths to describe & respect the emotional tumult of become an adult.
She does not belittle or mock Rose or her peers' experiences. She acknowledges that oftentimes, being a teenager on the cusp of adulthood leaves you on the fringes of adult life just enough to witness more than the people who are in charge. Rose sees the mistakes & the wrongs & they all bear the brunt of the elders in charge, set in their traditional ways in an ever changing world.
Very much like life was as a YA, IMO. Like the saying goes, the sins of the father shall be visited on the son. While that expression is singular - you can apply it in a larger context in this series.
"At first when i got the first book i wasn't really interested to read it but my cousin insisted that i get a book for my b-day so i chose a cheap but good looking cover. Then i started reading it and couldn't put it down! I absolutly loved these books but then after the third one i notice that it goes on..so i checked online for some more info. then found out that theres 5 books altogether and finding out that the 4th one doesn't come out till end of July or Aug. which totally sucks cuz I cannot wait to start reading the next book i really would like to know what happends!!!! "I fell into this book so thoroughly that I both wanted and dreaded the ending. So frustrating! I want the fourth book to be out now and it's killing me that I have to wait until August.
Mead continues to weave a complex tale with excellent characters. The stakes keep getting higher and her characters are never quite perfect but always enthralling. The dialog, pace and plot are perfect and everythnig spirals out to the end.
SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW . . . . . . I kind of anticipated what happened with Demitri. It wasn't a complete shock. It's still heartbreaking however. Poor Rose, she has to do the impossible now. I was a bit surprised that Dimitri's death or rather conversion didn't hit me harder. I like Dimitri and when other favorite characters have died in books I'm usually in tears. But not this time. Not sure why. Perhaps it's because he isn't completely gone from the story although he is for all intents dead. Or perhaps I wasn't as fond of him as I thought. I suppose the next book will prove that out. I can't imagine where Mead is taking the series but I can't wait to find out."
