"I liked Butch! There, I said it!! I even developed some respect for Marissa, except she sure did a lot of vacillating. The author gave out so many hints about Butch's destiny that even this blind person could see it, but that was part of the charm in it for me. My only disappointment was about the Fore-Lesser; for some reason, I really wanted him to be able to escape Omega - oh, well!"
"I have tried to Avoid this review not because I didn't like book because I did. Or because i didn't like Butch because I love me some Butch. Fine I'll just come right out and say it.... I HATE MARISSA!!!! Don't beat me up because I will say this I had more respect for her at the end of this book than I did before. I just couldn't connect with her she drove me insane. I'm happy for butch though truly I am but man could it have been V instead lol. I don't care someone else out there I know feels the same way I do. But truly I'm glad that V and Butch didn't hook up cause it would have been all wrong for Butch and for V both. But damn a girl can dream. I have to say it was really funny reading about V watching Butch with Marissa. Deep down I know that V does love Butch and may have been attracted to him since he doesn't have issues with being with men but it was In Love LOVE, and Rock on for Butch for knowing and admitting to feeling something as well maybe not at intense at V but still. Also Butch being taken and hurt by the Omega (let me at 'em let me at 'em) and V being able to heal him. I'm also glad that Butch could become one of them and feel that he truly belonged somewhere that was so easy to relate to. Now he had a purpose and he and V will be bound together by so many things. I love that we got a deeper look at V and Gifts as well as his taste for hard core BDSM. I have to say that had this story been all about Butch (which isn't the problem)and Marissa I don't know if I could have read the whole thing."
"This series continues to amaze me! I read a LOT and if I truly enjoy a book, it usually gets a 4-star rating. I save my 5-star ratings for books that I find truly special.
The entire Black Dagger Brotherhood series has gotten 5-star rating from me so far.
It's hard for me to pin-point exactly what is so special about these. They're paranormal romances mixed with urban fantasy. They've got the boy meets girl storyline (or in this case boy meets vampire) of a romance, but they also have the rich world-building of an urban fantsy.
I think what sets these apart for me is how complicated the characters (and there are plenty) all are. The stress between characters is almost always based on a series of misunderstanding or lack of communication. Since they're written in 3rd person, the reader understands the feelings of each, so when these feelings are unspoken in the story, resulting in the conflict, it just about tears one apart!
There's no wonder the psychology field encourages honest communication in relationships, yet many of us struggle with it in our lives. I think that very human flaw - turned into a relationship lesson - is what makes each of these novels so special. Due to this, the reader's emotional attachment to the characters grows throughout the series as well.
I really just can't say enough good things about these novels. If you like a good vampire romance - and don't mind a bit of action and some very hot, erotic, love scenes mixed in - then definitely pick up this series!"
"At first I thought to myself, "Gosh, this has some homoerotic subtext." Then I hit the end and thought, "Nope, there was no sub- about that homoerotic text." I would have been more intrigued if she had written an actual romance between Butch and V, or had them enter into some unusual triangular arrangement with Marissa (for example, Butch remaining human and Marissa feeding off V) than the actual by-the-numbers romance in this book.
While I was engaged through the whole book, I also had more problems with it than I did the earlier ones. Marissa sounds just like every other character when she talks, and considering her background, she shouldn't. Butch...I wasn't entirely impressed with what she did with Butch. I think it was a less interesting transition for his character, and it felt forced. If he'd stayed human-with-weird-powers, and if those powers had been amped up a little to make him complementary to the vamps, it could have been more intriguing. It also would have been interesting to see how they would work out the feeding angle, what with the jealousy and all.
Speaking of the jealousy - at this point it's reached absurd proportions. Apparently all male vampires are predisposed to be jealous sons of bitches. Very annoying. Are there women who actually find that hot?
I'd like to see some of the women from previous novels get more face time in these books.
On to the things I did like - and I swear, there were some! I liked what they did with Lash. I liked that Marissa found herself, and found a career. I like how they are steadily realizing that vampire society needs to adopt human organizational and civil structures like a police force. I like Butch's nifty new power (although it doesn't make sense to me that the Omega would do something that they resolved so easily and backfired so hard - it seemed to me that power should have been more difficultly won). I like that Tohr hasn't been forgotten."
