"I was really disappointed. Being that I have read two other books of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, I was really looking forward to this one. Maybe it was me, but it just did not meet my expectations...other than the love story going on, I found it to be very boring."
"Wow, Lover Eternal was a big improvement over Dark Lover, which I liked fine but wasn't fully getting why this series has so many intense fans. Continuing to skip the lessers parts (still not a problem for me as far as plot goes and definitely a boost as far as reading enjoyment), I found Lover Eternal very absorbing. I had a hard time putting the book down for things like, oh, returning to work after a lunch break and going to bed a decent hour. No need to go into the plot of Rhage, the vampire with the dragon on his back that makes his life a misery and Mary, the human with a life threatening illness. I'm way late to the BDB party and all the accompanying reviews.
I gave this book 5 stars for the following reasons:
1. About 3/4 into it, I found myself buying and downloading Book 3 even though I have tons of books to read already (I continue to love/slightly fear the Whispernet's powers).
2. Rhage was a doll, a fantastic caring hero or to quote Mary, "the sweetest thug I know."
3. Rhage and Mary had to grow and become even more courageous than they already were at the beginning of the book in order to overcome all the obstacles in their way. Heck, even Rhage's dragon/beast showed personal growth.
4. I actually cried towards the end of the book, which is a very rare event for me. I tear up easily with music, movies, but almost never with books. There was a lot of emotion in this story.
There were a few things I didn't like about the book. I still hate, hate, hate reading about the lessers and still won't. I still don't care much for the slang and posturing the Brothers are prone to, but that quieted down shortly into the story. Last, there was a ritual punishment I thought was stupid and also skipped over the details.
But overall Lover Eternal a very compelling, satisfying and moving read. I'm looking forward to Zhadist and Bella's story, though I understand there area a lot of dark scenes from when Zhadist was a blood slave."
"I love this series so far, I couldn't put this book down. The story line captures you into the moment. The romance and desires draw you into the story.
Rhage (Hollywood) and Mary's relationship is great. I like how Rhage was was introduced as a guy who was basically a male hore just to get what he wanted so he could just feed and calm the dragon in side him that he was cursed with. I love the fearceness of the dragon and how protective it was. Rhage never knew he would meet the love of his life until he met Mary. Mary was special, she was dieing of cancer but she was very brave and strong willed/tough. When she was with Rhage, she brought the animal out of him - it was like she had two lovers Rhage/the dragon inside him.
All the other characters introduced and the black dagger brotherhood characters liven up the story with each of their own tells.
In the end, Rhage goes to the scribe virgin to beg her to save Mary and when she agrees upon his sacrafice of keeping the dragon inside him for life and not ever going around Mary again then on those terms the scribe virgin would give Mary eternal life but she would not know him. However, Mary is saved and given life eternal by the Scribe Virgin because she can not bare children and the Scribe Virgin allows her to go to Rhage and be apart of his life because the scribe virgin feels that Mary has already made the sacrafice of not being able to bare children and taking her from her true love would be to much to bare.
So the story ends happily ever after with Rhage and Mary, but the book leaves you wondering what will happen with the next brother in line and what happens to Bella, one of the new characters, since she was kidnapped by the lessers. Also the new character John who I believe is Daris (Beth's father) reincarniated from the first book - when will he go through his transition? Also the story between Butch and Marissa is still open.
Can't wait to get to the next book in the series."
