"The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time is about Christopher John Francis Boone, an autistic 15 year old who finds his neighbor's dog Wellington dead, with a pitchfork in him. Christopher decides to find out who killed Wellington, and uncovers other mysteries along the way, mysteries within his family.
I want to warn readers that The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time isn't really about who killed Wellington. As a mystery story, the book was disappointing and had an unrealistic ending.
The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time is really about Christopher and his perspective on life as an autistic person. He views the world literally and logically- he has trouble understanding figurative language and facial expressions, but he can solve astoundingly complex math problems in his head. Reading the book from the perspective of an autistic person added a lot of suspense and dimension to the story, and I learned a lot about autism.
So if you want to find out who killed Wellington, I can't recommend this book. You'll be very disappointed. But if you want to see the world through the eyes of an autistic boy, discover the secrets Christopher's father has kept from him, and find out how prime numbers are like life, then you absolutely MUST read The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time."
