"Overall liked the stories from my favorite authors, but some of the stories had a bit too much horror in them for a Christmas anthology, I mean come on, Rudolph gets eaten. So I felt no compulsion to read every story or finish one that I wasn't liking.
Charlaine Harris -- Wow! This should have been named "Sookie Gets Some!" Wow, her grandfather knows how to give a present.
Patricia Briggs -- I loved these characters and hope to see them again. The story is a great underdog tale.
Keri Arthur - loved this story.
Karen Chance -- love this series and it's always fun to add additional story lines."
"Okay, okay, what was I doing reading a book of short stories that link Christmas and werewolves? But ask yourself, don't the holidays bring out the beast in all of us? Here's the story. I've been intrigued with all of the vampire and werewolf books that are being published and when I saw this book of short stories in the library, I thought why not. I'll tell you why not. It turns out that I have zero, yes zero, interest in reading about werewolves and vampires (and apparently they can exist in the same family, who knew?) even if you throw in some holiday music, lights, and eggnog. Lesson learner. Avoid this genre. This will save me a lot of time and a wad of money in the upcoming months and for that I am grateful. However, these were three hours that I will never get back. One star."
"I just read the Sookie story in this installment and I have to say that I absolutely hated it. As a huge fan of the Sookie series, I thought I would get a treat in between installments, but this is one I wish I had never read.
Sookie's a pretty "nice" girl for the most part and that's one of the things that I enjoy about her most. The present that she received from her grandfather was absolutely ridiculous and seemed to cheapen Sookie's character for me. I am going to pretend I didn't read it.
I would have rated this a 1 if there weren't other author's stories in here that I only had a chance to gleen."
"Gift Wrap-Charlaine Harris Great! Made me yearn for more Sookie!
The Haire of the Beast-Donna Andrews A little magic and a little revenge. Cute Story.
Lucy, at Christmastime-Simon R. Green Very short story. It was also very dark.
The Night Things Changed-Dana Cameron Good story featuring a brother and sister team. Interesting take on the werewolf/vampire scenario.
The Werewolf Before Christmas-Kat Richardson I really didn't care for this one. It was well written, but I just couldn't stomach this version of Santa Claus. He wasn't really evil, just kinda oblivious and running around with an evil sidekick. Call me sentimental.
Fresh Meat-Alan Gordon Loved this one! The main character is a dog trainer with special abilities who really takes care of his dogs.
Il Est Ne'-Carrie Vaughn A werewolf named Kitty helps a new werewolf find his way and a killer. Pretty good.
The Perfect Gift-Dana Stabenow I didn't think this one was anything spectacular. A cop and his partner solve some murders.
Christmas Past-Keri Arthur A fighting couple, a search for rogue vampires, and an uncomfortable elf costume.
SA-J.A. Konrath Sometimes you just need a little help from some friends. This one was pretty good.
The Star of David-Patricia Briggs This one was really good. I liked the interaction between the characters and the story. A child with a special ability needs help and in the process helps bring a family back together.
You'd Better Not Pyout-Nancy Pickard Russian vampires, a trip around the world, and a safari. Enjoyable. I especially liked the Russian vampire's accent. It was cool!
Rogue Elements-Karen Chance A woman denying who she is but because of who she is, she is sent on an assignment. It was ok, but I thought it was a little disjointed.
Milk and Cookies-Rob Thurman I really liked this one! I actually wanted to read it again.
Keeping Watch Over His Flock-Toni L. P. Kelner Icky theme. I don't think this should have been the last story just in case one wanted to get the visuals out of one's head."
