"To be honest, this wasn't my favorite of the Spencer novels. I felt like the danger and the urgency to find the kidnapped girl just wasn't there.
Obviously, there was something else going on with her abduction. Spencer knew it and the reader knew it. However, there wasn't a sense that Spencer was really all that concerned about her whereabouts or her safety. That kind of bothered me. It almost felt like because RBP knew that the girl was safe, it bled over onto Spencer.
Hawk was, as always, amazing.
This was a page turner for me, as are all of RBP's books, even though the story didn't really have me as hooked as I have been in the past. This was one of those cases where the life and the world of Spencer held my attention more than the mystery.
Did anyone NOT see the Gray Man as her father coming?
This was an okay novel, with some exciting action at the beginning. Nothing to write home to mother about."

If you love Spenser, you'll love this book. If you've never read Spenser books, start with this and then get to work on the others. "When I was in college, I once spent an entire semester eating tuna and noodle casserole every single night for dinner, and by the end of the semester I still wasn't tired of it. In other words, I am comfortable with sameness, with the tried and true, with the old and familiar of life. Thus, though other reviewers have shown some real disappointment for Robert B. Parker's latest Spenser novel, I enjoyed it. Clearly it is not his best, and yes, he plagiarizes interactions and even dialogue from his previous novels, but for me, that is like enjoying a visit from old friends. Nonetheless, I would like to see him return to the originality, character development, and edginess of his earlier books. For most fans of Parker's Spenser series, I suspect Rough Weather will be a disappointment."
"Pretty good Spenser; everything for the long term fan. Spenser is approached by Heidi Bradshaw, a well known Boston socialite, to provide additional security at her daughter's wedding. But Ruger, Spenser's long-time nemesis (knowna s the Gray Man), shows up, kidnaps the daughter, shoots the groom, and disappears. Heidi doesn't seem too worried, and orders Spenser not to "interfere" and orders him not to try and find the daughter. Honor-bound Spenser tries to find her anyway . . .
Typical, in the best possible sense, Parker. You have Spenser, Susan, and Hawk, there and suppporting each other in this oddly functional "family." It's a comfortable book, in the sense that long term fans will be very gratified at reading it. Don't know how new readers would feel. But I really liked it."
