"Mickey Spillane brings back Mike Hammer and Max Allan Collins finishes the manuscript from Spillane's notes. A Spillane and MAC fan for years, the two together should have have been an easy 5-star review. It's certainly not a bad book and all of the Hammer/Spillane elements that you'd expect are certainly there (Velda and Chambers are great here) and Collins does a great job of tying off Spillane's story. I guess the formula is (dare I say it) getting a little too formulaic and needs a little new life breathed into it. There are still a few unfinished Hammer manuscripts that Spillane left unfinished and I'd still like to see Collins finish them up and get them published. I'd certainly buy them. Hammer and Spillane still have stories left to tell."
"Modern tale for a "mature" Mike Hammer. A good read and in the true Spillane fashion, eventhough it was finished after his death by Max Allen Collins...Thanks Buddy."
"It's been a while since I've read a Mickey Spillane book with his marvelous private detective character Mike Hammer. In this one, he was writing it on death's door, and coaxed a writer-friend (Max Allen Collins) to finish it for him.
After Spillane died, Collins, working with the almost completed manuscript and copious notes, completed the book.
I enjoy the Hammer character and the various violent events that are melded into the story. This one is no exception. To me, it was a fun and easy read."
