About this title: A story of aviation, ambition, and betrayal, set in Africa in the 1920s. Charlie Halifax is an American pilot who deserts from action while serving in the French Air Force during World War I. Captured and sentenced to 20 years service in the Foreign Legion, Halifax is sent to Africa, where he becomes involved in an elaborate scheme to run arms to the very tribes they are supposed to be fighting. While in Africa Halifax develops his skills as a flier and eventually becomes determined to be the first man ever to fly the Atlantic nonstop.
