Also profiled in the book are 'canned ham' trailers, whose shape resembles the profile of a can of ham; small-size examples of America's most beloved vintage trailer, the Airstream; minuscule gypsy ...

Loads of pictures of beautiful "teardrop" style auto-trailers, many of them restored to perfection from their original post-war production.
There is an extremely helpful introduction in which the author explains the origin and ultimate decline of this type of trailer. After the Second War, millions of returning service men and women wanted to experience the lure of the open road -- but on a budget. Hence, the teardrop trailer, so named for it's aerodynamic shape. Typically sleeping two, snugly, there was also a kitchen. Light enough to be towed behind the day's passenger cars (this before the monster SUVs and ubiquitous pick-up truck), these were produced mainly in kit form, to be built by the handy-man at home.
Many of these teardrops have been lovingly restored, and sometimes painted in a complementary color scheme with a period auto. These are pictured in colorful settings, usually when gathered as part of an enthusiast's confab.
The pictures alone are worth the price of admission. I'd love to have a teardrop, myself!"
