"The art was a big turn off. None of the new artists had a style that I liked. It also felt like Ennis lost his touch during parts, like he didn't care."
"This is the fourth volume in the Preacher series, but it's actually a collection of a couple one-shots and the mini-series concerning the origins of the Saint of Killers.
The Saint of Killers mini-series is a great one, harkening back to the days of the old West and taking us straight into the depths of Hell. It's violent and troubling, but, once again, it's never without merit.
The origins of Arseface is also pretty good. They take a character that is seemingly ridiculous and arbitrary and make you feel a bit of compassion for him. Oddly enough, it's also a good commentary on teen angst and the slacker generation of the 90s.
The final tale is just a fun one. It's about Jesse's cousins and takes place before the events of the second volume UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD. Basically it's what would happen if normal comic book characters and their stories made their way into the pages of PREACHER. It's really funny.
All in all, Ancient History is a great book. It takes a break from the main story and fleshes out some great characters. Highly recommended, but really not for everybody."
