"Bullying was once considered a character-building rite of passage for children, but now it is seen for what it is--a form of victimization and abuse which can leave lasting psychological scars. The letters in this book bring the bullying problem to life as we read the stories of bullies as well as stories of the bullied. Bullying affects everyone and, as evidenced by some of the stories, the scars can sometimes last a lifetime. I would hope that all students would read this book and many thanks to the two sisters who began the letter-writing campaign!"
"Some books aimed at a teenage audience are interesting for adult readers as well, though I wouldn't put this book into this category. It was a unique concept by 2 compassionate sisters, but, for me, it wasn't compelling reading. I would have enjoyed it more, had I just flipped through the book.
It WOULD be a great resource for teachers, church/scout/youth group leaders, etc. I can imagine girls (and boys) taking turns reading the letters aloud and discussing them. Most books are solitary pursuits; this book is meant to be shared."
"A collection of letters written to a young girl after she went public about the bullying she was receiving in school. Two sisters started a letter writing campaign to provide the bullied girl support, and thousands of strangers wrote her telling their stories. The most interesting to me were from former bullies themselves. This should be required reading for all school teachers and parents."
"I didn't read the whole book because I got the point pretty early on. Olivia was a teenager who was bullied in high school to the point where she didn't want to go to school anymore. Two high school girls heard about the torment Olivia was receiving and decided to do something about it. They started a website dedicated to helping the high schooler, and it became a phenomenon. The letters in the book are from people who were both bullied and were bullies themselves. I would recommend parents reading this book and passing it on to tween and teenage children, whether they are bullied or not."
