"This one was not as funny as his first, however I did find it an amusing read and very insightful. I learned a lot about reading novels, even if I haven't read many he brought up. I actually liked it that way, because now I can go find them and read them with an understanding I wouldn't otherwise have had. All in all a very good read."
"An excellent and lite (very, very lite) little resource into literature (specifically the novel) and literary theory. One of the very few LT-lite books that focuses more on critical reading versus writing. I found this a rather 'novel' (ba-dump-bump-bump) approach in this and his first book."
"Not as good as his HT Read Literature. It might have been better if he had used a wider range of novels as examples as none he chose were particularly interesting to me. I liked his point that a novel requires the reader to fulfill its potential as the reader brings his own interpretations- often beyond what the author envisioned. The same book will become different for different readers depending on the experiences they bring to it. This work has a lot of meat for discussion groups but really needed an index to make it more useful. "... books lead to books, ideas to ideas- the path goes on forever.""
