"Duty and honor, give way to passion in Darkness Everlasting. Darcy has never fit well into the world, but it isn't until she is kidnapped by vampire leader Styx that she discovers another world, a hidden world where her strength and ability to heal don't mark her as a freak forced to live a lonely existence to hide her otherness -- a world of vampires, demons and werewolves, a world where Darcy is a treasure sought after by the werewolf King Salvatore Giuliani. Styx ever dedicated to his people and his duty initially seeks to use Darcy as a bargaining chip to force the werewolves back under vampire rule, but almost immediately this controlled sensible immortal finds himself inflamed by Darcy's presence and consumed by the desire to protect this spunky, kindhearted woman and soon Styx realizes that he will never be able to let her go. But Darcy is too valuable to Salvatore and his people, Salvatore seeks to make her his queen, and will stop at nothing to possess her. When Salvatore attempts to lure Darcy to his side with the offer of information on the mother and sisters, she never knew existed, will Darcy choose the promise of the family she's always longed for or the powerful Styx who's passion and hidden loneliness calls to her heart and soul?
Styx's attraction to Darcy is immediate and powerful and part of the appeal of the story is how quickly and completely he falls. Knowing from the previous book how much duty and honor have ruled Styx's life and that his commitment to his people has always been his primary focus, the shift we see in Styx as Darcy's protection becomes his driving force underscores the power of his feelings for Darcy and his willingness to let her choose, even at the risk of losing her, shows the true depth of his love. Salvatore is suave and beautiful in his own right with the animal attraction thing going for him. Despite the brutal authority Salvatore must maintain over his wolves who have difficulty controlling their more savage nature, Salvatore's honor kept him from forcing Darcy though the price of offering her a choice was high. This along with his secret desire for a soulmate, a dream in conflict with his duty to insure the survival of his race, kept him from being unappealing. But you probably may have guessed by now who I'd have picked if I got to choose.
Though Styx and many of the supporting characters appeared in previous books - Viper Shay and Levitt in Embrace The Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, Book 2) and Abby in When Darkness Comes (Guardians of Eternity, Book 1) Darkness Everlasting still works as an enjoyable standalone read. Ivy includes a brief teaser for her next book in her Guardians of Eternity series at the end of this but unlike the previous two books where she set up for her next hero - she had me dying for Viper's and Styx's stories -- her intriguing new hero wasn't introduced in this book."
"This was Styx and Darcy's story. I liked both the characters. Once again, this is a fast, easy read. The plot is decent, the characters likeable and well developed. It simply lacks the depth and breadth of a five star novel. It is nice for a quick, easy read. I enjoy the characters quite a bit. They could easily fit into a more driven book. But, it is what it is. I didn't expect to like Styx so much. From the last book he was left feeling pretty down on himself and I feared he would be too weak a character. But he shaped up well and is my fav in the series next to Viper."
"Darkness Everlasting is one of my favorite books. It tells the story of how Darcy Smith and Styx (the Anasso of vampire) met and fall in love. Bu falling in love is hard when Darcy wants to find out who she really is and why Salvatore Giuliani ( King if werewolves ) is after her. But Styx doesn't want Darcy any where near Salvatore. So Darcy is forced to choose between love and who she really is."
