"So, I picked up another Harlan Coben book at the library. All I can say is, I'm still a fan.
Coben writes books like a puzzle - he gives you tiny little hints and jumps between the many character's stories within the book - and you start off with maybe 8 people who don't seem to have anything in common, but by the end of the book you can see how everything just clicks. It's amazing to me that the author can jump around so much, leave you completely in the dark, and then sucker-punch you by unveiling a connection or unknown piece of the puzzle, which your mind grasps and all of the sudden you start connecting the dots. I believe this is the mark of a great author!
I spent most of the book wishing I could read faster so I could figure out what was going on! I loved the characters and I thought the ongoing debate within the book - whether or not spying on your kids is wrong or right - was an interesting one. I'm not sure I know the answer to it, but I know Coben presented both sides pretty darn well.
"First of all i luff Harlan Coben i just think his books are always amazing without fail.
The book starts really good, you're instantly like what on earth is going on and you feel like that all the way through the book but that's not a bad thing.
I loved the twists in the book and how everyone came together, it was kinda like, if Harlan wrote for desperate houeswives, this would be the series, and how everything came together in the end was really good and i always think Harlan does a good job of not leaving any loose ends he ties them all up pretty nicely.
Oh and it was awesome to have Muse and Cope back in this book, i didn't know they would be making a return.
The cons though, with every mystery book you just want it to build and build and build and then when the big reveal comes you're always just a little disappointed and i think the 'big' reveal in the book isnt that good, the little twists are really good though and i don't want to say too much cause i'll end up spoiling it.
So amazing book and pretty much why he's one of my favourite authors"
"I haven't read Harlan Coben for at least 8 years. I remember reading Tell No One when I was rather young and I had a vivid dream that scared me. I decided to leave his books alone and try things my own age, but after a long time I picked up Hold Tight to refresh my memory of his style of writing. Hold Tight did not disappoint. To begin with I was wary as it wasn't a Myron Bolitar book and I loved Myron Bolitar but after the first few chapters - opening all of the scenarios - I was hooked. I read the book in five hours and I loved it. I warmed to the character Mike so well, and even though he was in his late forties his character told me he felt younger especially with his love for Hockey. Harlan Coben is one of my favourite authors, his writing is fluid and interesting and I love the moments of wit that the main characters, in this case Mike, have, making them more human and approachable.
I was glad that I chose this book to familiarise myself with this mans work, highly recommended. Cannot wait to read Long Lost."
"In the era of soft heros comes Mike Baye, a former All American hockey player and a man fiercely loyal to his family. Mike and his wife Tia have two children, 16 year old Adam and 11 year old Jill. After a friend of Adam's commits suicide, and Adam begins to show secretive behaviou, they install a security device on Adam's computer.
Then they spot an email about getting together to get high. They feel like they need to take action to save their son before he gets involved or more involved in drugs.
In the meanwhile, in another part of this compelling story, two women are killed in a savage maner and Chief Investigator, Loren Muse is attempting to stop and capture the killer.
Coben writes a wonderful plot driven story with interconnecting stories. We learn that there are some teens participating in para parties. This is where teens steal drugs from their parents' medicine cabinet and get together, put the drugs in a bowl and get high.
There are plot surprises, well developed characters, a believable and concerning plot all wonderfully done in a novel. Hard to put down.
