"This book opened my eyes to the conditions of indentured servitude. This was a type of slavery that I never really knew much about and I was shocked to learn that there are still people living as indentured servants today, even in America."
"Wonderful story of a confused teenager set in pre-Revolutionary area United States. I love the contrast between the very personal and yet universal drama set against the period backdrop."
"I really wanted to like this book as it had some nice historical details as seen through the eyes of the protagonist who was an indentured servant in 18th century Massachusetts. However, far too many pages were wasted on vacillating mental monologues which are fine once in a while but not throughout the whole book. It was very difficult to understand the character's reasons for her actions when she didn't appear to understand them herself, or her reasons kept changing. I prefer characters which are more decisive and oriented."
"This book is about a young girl whose family immigrates from England. On her way to America, her mother and her brother die aboard the ship, so her father decides he cannot raise her by himself. He sells her to a family to be an indentured servant. This takes place in the mid 1700's and is an interesting depiction of that little known piece of American history."
