"uggggh. I hope Chuck in real life isn't as shallow as he comes off in this book.
My fighting life follows Chuck childhood and fighting career. It is a book that has one main theme that Chuck wanted to get across. "I' am a man!!!!!" The book sometime even pleads with the reader to understand how much of a man he is.
The childhood stuff is a good histroy for anyone that is a fan of Chuck. This is the only really relivant information that the book gives.
The rest of the book talks about his fights. There is very little "background" on the fight other then a quick section on the Pele fight. The rest can be seen in the ring.
There is some information on the evalution of UFC but it is something that could be found in other books.
Chuck mostly talks about "Being a man" and how much sex he has. I had to give up reading a 3rd of the way through since it was just a huge waste of time.
If you are a new UFC fan and a fan of Chuck's you could learn stuff from this. If you have been following the sport for a few years, don't bother."
"When I first started to seriously follow the UFC, Chuck Liddell was already light heavyweight champ and seemed untouchable. This book is a good recap of where he came from and how he rose to be champ, which was interesting UFC history to me, but to anyone who had followed the sport from earlier, there is no new information.
And as regards the Iceman's personal life, motivation, etc., there is little to no insight. I feel like I now know a little more about the history of the UFC and specifically about Liddell's path up, but I do not feel that I know anymore what makes the man tick than I did before reading the book. It may be that he is really that shallow and uninteresting outside of the Octagon, or it may be that he is reticent about opening up, or he may just be a poor writer."
"This was one of the best autobios I have ever read. Chuck spilled his heart out telling about his tough life growing up in san luis obispo in his grandparents house growing up without a father. He is a great author and anyone even if you're not a ufc fan will like this book!"
