"I read this book because a friend really wanted me to read it. Although I couldn't quite buy the '90 minutes in heaven' bit (I think the paramedics were mistaken in pronouncing him dead.. the 'heaven' part I found a little child like), I thought the part about his extensive injuries and recovery from them was fascinating. It especially interested me because it all took place near Houston, and he was treated in the world famous trauma center here. The book was way too 'preachy' for me, but I did come away from it with 2 very powerful lessons: 1) when you are helpless and down, don't let your pride deny you from getting help from others; others want to help, and by not letting them, you are denying them their ability to give the gift of help to you 2) no matter how bad things are, you need to make a list of what is good in your life and what you can do, instead of what you can't do. Quick, easy read, but be aware of the very religious tone."
"I gave this book a five because its my favorite book and is a very interesting story about a guy that was actually living. I just got done with 90 minutes in heaven and now is currently my all time favorite book. This book can be very emotionial because it involves death. The book 90 minutes in heaven is about middle aged guy that is going to go to his friends church to preach for him. On his way there he gets in a car crash and dies immedietly. His friend then came to the car scene and was praying for him. He then tells about how heaven is sooo beautiful and he loved it. When his friend was praying for him and singing for him even though he was dead he still did. 90 minutes later he came back to life. This day and forward he is now alive and healthy. If you are a very relious person you would love this book. This is a very interesting setting. This book is written by: don piper. Then person that wrote this book is the person that died. 90 minutes in heaven is a book or scene that is real and has actually happened in real life."
"I just finished reading this book. I read it in about 2 days, so it is a pretty fast, easy read. I found it hard to grasp the part where he talks about his time in heaven, but the rest of the story was very intriguing. I have to admit that I was hesitant to read it at first because I thought that it would be very preachy and sugar coated, as opposed to the raw, very real feelings regarding the author's accident, injuries, recovery and his current life. I found it to be very real and honest. Even though he had a strong Christian faith, he did not sugar coat the fact that he was very angry and depressed at all of the physical and emotional losses he experienced because of the accident he was in. He was very honest about his struggles during his recovery and the struggles he continues to have everyday. It made me think about all of the things I take for granted that I am capable of doing each day."
"I was disappointed, because I expected this book about the author's 90minutes in heaven. Maybe that's why you should never judge a book by it's cover. There is only one short chapter dedicated to this author's experience of heaven, and, the rest of the book is dedicated how not his experience of heaven, but, how the accident itself and his survival and long recovery changed his life and affected the lives of others. The book is a little bit on the religious side for me, but, if you know that the author is a minister, I guess this is to be expected. I was glad that it was not over the top or overly evangelical in that way, though, and, the story is very touching in many ways. It did bring tears to my eyes several times. There are definitely good messages to take home, here, but, not a book I would keep on my shelf to refer back to. I may or may not recommend it to another, depending on their faith background (I prefer not to be perceived as the Evangelical type), but, it is a good read for many."
