"Well I read the books before I watched the T.V series, but I'll talk about the television series tomorrow or later today since it's 1A.M. Anyways, what can I say. First off, in my opinion, I actually enjoyed this more then twilight. It is different from Twilight and I don't want to start a argument, but after hearing that Stephenie Meyer got sued I must say that if I were to pick who should of sued Stephenie Meyer (this sounds totally mean, I know, but it's not intended to) I would pick L.J Smith. But anyways this book is very fast paced and doesn't drag on. Well Damon is kept out of it for a while, but that's all. It's not boring. I didn't really find any scenes that I thought should've been cut. This book is two books in the series in one. I liked the second book the best and the first book was good but the second one was better. The first one was fast paced but it didn't have enough action and the ending wasn't so good in my opinion. The Second book ending made up for that because I think it had the best ending I've ever read. Also L.J Smith does a fantastic job of creating a world that is very vivid to the mind. She also lets her readers see a super natural world that is to good to resist. With a hot, good-guyVampire and bad-boy vampire who are brothers. At first you'll hate Elena (protagonist) but after a while you'll begin to see her point of view and understand her pain and suffering. I must say that the emotions are well described and it defiently is a amazing book. The only thing I would suggest is that it weren't a cliffhanger in every book because if you don't have the next book you'll be sad. I suggest for any future buyers to buy the first volume and second volume. So you'll have the first four books in your hand. So far this series is amazing and I can't wait to read more XD."
"Alright, so I caved and re-read some really bad books this past weekend. I couldn't help it! I was drawn to them for some reason. And yes I wrote "re-read" - I read these books when I was about to begin high school and I just loved them (of course I was 13 turning 14, so what can I say). Anyhow, the books are The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith and they chronicle the love triangle between Elena, Stefan and Damon. Elena is mortal and the queen bee of her high school. Stefan is new in town and quite handsome, so he has all the girls crushing on him. Damon is Stefan's older brother and loves to live dangerously. Both Stefan and Damon are vampires and have come to Fell's Church for very different reasons: Stefan wants a fresh new start and Damon wants to torment his brother. Elena finds herself drawn to both brothers and must choose between them. And there you have the plot in a nutshell. So, what happens? Well, Stefan and Elena are in love, but Damon brings out feelings in Elena and in the end they both make her a vampire and then she is still torn about which brother to choose (although it is usually Stefan, the good brother, that she is more drawn to) and then Stefan and Damon's first love comes back to kill them all and Elena sacrifices herself in order to save her town and the people she loves and Stefan and Damon are left heartbroken. Of course the last book has Stefan and Damon returning to Fell's Church to help Elena's old friends deal with a new evil in town and eventually Elena makes her return and there you have it. Oh and Elena chooses Stefan. The end (okay, not really the end, because apparently there is a new book out that talks about Elena and her return from death and reunites the whole gang again, but I haven't read it so I don't really know how bad or good it is). As for the writing in The Vampire Diaries, well, it's okay: the characters are pretty much stereotypical versions of high school kids (queen bee, jock, serious student, jealous rival, etc.) with a couple of vampires thrown in for fun. As for the story lines, well, nothing too original about them, but fun to read nonetheless. Overall, it was fun to read these books again, because it reminded me of when I was young and how bad my taste in books was back then (not really, I loved reading Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine). I guess not all YA books are for adults, huh?"
"I really didn't like these books. I didn't care about either Elena or Stefan. I saw the previews for the CW show and thought the story looked good. But the TV show is a thousand times better than the book. I didn't like the self centered Elena or understand why anyone else would either. When she met Stefan I couldn't understand the obsession she had over him, and why she was so hurt that he didn't talk to her. When he finaly saved her at Halloween and they were in love I had to flip back in the book to make sure I didn't miss something. I mean how are they in love already? They never talked to each other, and he seemed to have a distain for her. Their relationship seems empty. I didn't feel like they cared for each other. At about page 222, when Stefan started to tell his back story and explain things to Elena, I thought that the series would start getting good. But no such luck, it was all contrite and boring. I didn't care what happened to anyone. I was almost hoping that Damon wouldv'e killed Stefan and then turned Elena. I got to chapter 6 in The Struggle, and just couldn't waste my time any more. I had to stop reading."
"The Awakening: I loved this book. It starts off with Elena's first diary entry. She thinks that something bad is going to happen. The book starts off good and strong on the first page. When Stefan comes to Robert E Lee High School, Elena must have him. But there is one problem, Stefan is doing everything in his power to ignore her. This just makes Elena more determined to get him. She even uses her ex, Matt to help her. The book get's even better when Stefan tells Elena his secret.
The Struggle: This book was as good as the first one, if not better. I really liked Stefan and Elena's relationship in the book. The book starts off with Elena yelling for Damon, Stefan's evil brother. Shocking, I know! She is yelling for him because he has taken Stefan somewhere and Elena can't find him. She only knows that he is in trouble. Elena goes through quit a bit of trouble in this book. She get her diary stolen, only to find out that it was someone she thought was her friend took it to get back at her. Also, Damon, Stefan's brother keps getting into her head and talks her into doing things that she doesn't want to do. He wants to steal Elena away from Stefan. And at the end of the book she gets into a car accident which makes the ending totally awesome! Sounds weird saying it, but you have to read the book! I actually found myself rooting for Damon at the end of the book. I think his "powers" came out of the book and worked on me. :) But before I finished I was rooting for Stefan again."
