About this title: In 1910, in an alternate London, a penniless young dancer is visited by a cat who communicates with her telepathically. Though she is certain she must be going mad, she is desperate enough to follow the cat's advice to impersonate a famous Russian ballerina.

"As seems usual for this series, the lead-up was great and the climax short. It took me until the end to figure out that this was Puss in Boots--it's a lot more subtle than the other ones. It was what I needed today though--dance geekery (yeah, Duncan, Fuller, and Pavlova!), not too much thought, and hints of the organization that was already formed in the other books in this series."
"I loved the magic in this book. I found it repeated a lot of information so I was skipping here and there over that. I enjoyed the whole story line and the characters, just found that I was skimming over a lot of pages and moving on a lot through it."
"This is #5 sequentially in the Elemental Masters Series, but not chronologically. I haven't found a date in this one yet, so I'm not sure if it's before "Gates of Sleep" which is 1890's, or after. I'd guess turn of century era, since several of the main characters have a motorcar, and electricity is just starting to come in. That puts it between "Gates" and prior to "Phoenix"
The Opening is Phantom of the Opera, and then it takes a left turn from there. This is one of the series that is very good when M. Lackey has the story and is given the time to write it. It does help if you've read the prior books in the series to know about the Elementals, which ones don't work together, and so on. This is also the first heroine that isn't a mage in training. As a performer, she's an emotion transfer.
It's a solid read to this point (about halfway) and there are several descriptions which make you very glad you are not a woman or a lower class child in that era."
"Mercedes Lackey's take on the Puss in Boots tale. As usual, Lackey does a good job creating a magical world grounded in real time and space (this time, Victorian England). I think this book is supposed to be a self-contained story; if so, it ended a bit abruptly for me. I would probably pick up the others in this series if I came across them but I won't be hunting them out."
