"Cole delivers another wickedly hot romance! If you haven't read any of Kresley Cole's Immortal's after Dark series, lucky you - you are in for a treat. Just don't start with this book or you will miss half the fun. Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night overlaps Cole's previous book No Rest for the Wicked (The Immortals After Dark, Book 2) and we have already met the leads Bowen and Mariketa and understanding the whole setup of the Hie, which is an immortal scavenger hunt of sorts also adds to this book. So you should at least read that book before you start this one. Even better go back and start with A Hunger Like No Other (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 1) because some of Cole's best supporting characters carry through all the books, and knowing who they are adds depth to this story and the books are great reads too so it's no hardship.
Her pair here were just great. Lykae Bowen has such a ruthless intensity you have to love him or hate him or both. And Witch Mariketa is stubborn, sensual, and not about to let her current lack of immortality slow her down. The relationship between these two doesn't get off to a great start. Bowen traps Mariketa in a cave with deranged incubi and no food and Mariketa casts a spell on Bowen to steal his immortality and the ability to heal when he looses several major body parts. Needless to say they are both a bit perturbed with each other when they meet up again. And just because all of a sudden Bowen rescues Mariketa and decides she's his reincarnated mate, Mariketa is not in any hurry to kiss and forgive what he's made her endure. But of course fate has its own ideas. The chemistry and attraction both physical and personal between Bowen and Mariketa was really well done. And that, along with plenty of action and some unexpected twist and turns as Mariketa develops the abilities to fulfill her destiny and Bowen grows past his prejudices makes this a very satisfying read.
Cole's Immortals Series just keeps getting better and better and from the supporting characters she's introduced in the series so far it doesn't look like she will be running out of hot heroes or amazing heroines anytime soon. I already have her next two books and an anthology with a IAD story on my wish list. (Dark Needs at Night's Edge (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 4), (Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5) and Not That Innocent which has a short for another of those sexy Wroth brothers. His story picks up during the Hie of book two where he and Marikita meet for the first time - and she curses him. She's a great match for him, a strong character in her own right. Bowen and Mariketta meet when both enter the Hie (an immortal version of The Amazing Race). As Nuting futs Nix predicted. The prize being a key, which can bend the space time continuum and allow you to go back in time, twice. Needless to say, Bowen would do anything to go back and save his mate. Mariketta wants the key... because well... she can, and having the key will bring even more power for the house of witches. Things really escalate from there on, bringing into play Incubi, Witches, evil Goddesses, jealous Rage demons, Guatemalan human soldiers and the ever present infamous Valkyries. Bowen and Mariketta is definitely my favourite couple thus far, and I thought no one would be able to topple Sebastian Wroth and Kaderin the Cold hearted. The way Cole articulated the magick Mariketta wields, in her sleep... while unconscious was something I could see playing off as clear as daylight. It was beyond awesome! The action scenes... the near death experiences... And the relationship between the two... *sigh* regrettably I will have to stop .... Or I'll definitely give the whole plot away. I'm just teetering on the edge of being a tattle tale. Great book. Great series. Great writer. Go get it!"
